PATCHOGUE, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury Men's Basketball team lost a Skyline Conference game on
the road at St. Joseph's College-Long Island on Tuesday night,
75-73. Old Westbury levels their record to 4-4 on the season
and is now 3-1 in conference action. The Golden Eagles
improve to 7-1 overall and remain undefeated in league play at 4-0.
Old Westbury cut away at a 14 point deficit with 13:13 left in
the second half, sparked by a three-pointer by Kenneth Eusey.
Two field goals down the stretch by Brandon Mays and a jumper by
Anthony Stowe brought Old Westbury back within one, 71-70.
The Golden Eagles sank four free-throws over the final 33 seconds
to hold on for the victory.
The Panthers were led on offense by Anthony Stowe and Garthlette
James. Stowe finished with a team-best 15 points, four
assists and three steals to go along with five rebounds.
James connected on six field goals on the way to 15 points along
with four rebounds. Divine Jackson tallied 10 points on
5-of-10 shooting and a team-high eight boards. Kenneth Eusey
sank two three's en route to eight points and Brandon Mays knocked
down 4-of-5 shots to finish with 10 points and nabbed two
steals.
Brandon Freeman of St. Joseph's (LI) led all scores with 24
points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and pulled down eights
rebounds (5 offensive). David Acree added 18 points including
4-for-6 from downtown to go with a game-high six assists and four
steals. Phil Lipari chipped in with 11 points and Mike Crisci
added 12 points.
As a team, both Old Westbury and St. Joseph's (LI) featured four
players apiece with double-digit points. Old Westbury shot 53
percent in the second half to finish with 43 percent shooting from
the field, including a tough 35 percent showing in the first
half. The Golden Eagles shot only 53 percent from the line,
but connected on a sizzling 53 percent from the floor and 52
percent from beyond the arc. Old Westbury forced 19 turnovers
and were forced into 15. The Panthers held their own on the
backboards despite being edged. 35-33. The Green and White tallied
15 offensive rebounds, led by Divine Jackson's
three.
Old Westbury returns to action Thursday, December
27th when the Panthers travel to Yeshiva
University. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 p.m. For more
