PANTHER SOFTBALL SWEEPS THROUGH NEW ROCHELLE, 28-1 (Gm.
1) and 18-9 (Gm. 2)

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-The Old Westbury softball
team triumphed over the College of New Rochelle in a double header
by a score of 28-1 in game one and 18-9 in game two on Wednesday at
New Rochelle. The sweep improves the Panthers record to 7-11
overall.
In game one, Nihal Boz (3-5) pitched a 4 hitter as she went the
distance with 5 innings of work in the circle to go along with 1
earned run and 5 strikeouts. Boz has plenty of support, to
the tune of 28 runs worth, in which she went 2-for-6, scoring 2
runs and driving in one run. Old Westbury drew first blood
with a 4-run first inning. Jessica Stoddard led off with a
single and then stole second and third base. Dakota Craine
drove in Stoddard from third base on a grounder. Nihal Boz
doubled and advanced to third base on a ground out by Katora
Russell. Traci Weeks then singled to drive in Boz from third
base followed by a 2-run round tripper by Shanelle Brown to put the
Panthers ahead 4-0. Old Westbury pilled on 7 runs in the
second inning, 7 runs in the third inning, 8 runs in the fourth
inning and 2 more runs in the fifth frame to go onto victory in a
style of 28-1in game one over New Rochelle.
Shanelle Brown led the way for Panthers offensive explosion with
8 RBI, 4 runs a double and a 2-run homerun to cap off a 4-for-6
performance at the plate in game one. Katora Russell went
3-for-4 with 4 runs scored, 4 RBI and a stolen base. Jessica
Stoddard went 3-for-4 (4 RBI, 4 Runs, 2 SB, 2 BB, Double), Nihal
Boz went 2-for-6 (2 Runs, 2 Doubles, 1 RBI and Traci Weeks went
1-for-3 (4 Runs, 2 RBI, 2BB). Dakota Craine went 1-for-2 (2
RBI, Run, Double) at the plate before being replaced by Aliya
Robertson who drew 2 free passes and scored 3 runs. Erica
Mitchell earned the start at second base and responded with a
2-for-5 game one performance (3 RBI, 2 Runs) and Latisha Fraser
went 1-for-4 (2 Runs, 2 RBI, Double) to add to the 28 runs Old
Westbury posted.
Old Westbury continued their fine hitting with 18 runs in game
two against New Rochelle. The Panthers posted one run in the
first inning that was quickly responded by New Rochelle with 4 runs
to take the lead after one inning, 4-1. In the first inning,
Jessica Stoddard led the game off with a double and advanced to
third base on a ground out by Jennifer Ragone and later scored on a
strikeout by Nihal Boz. Old Westbury posted 2 more runs in
the second inning to cut the deficit to 1 run, 4-3. Huriye
Donuk doubled to drive in Shanelle Brown from first base.
With the bases loaded Jessica Stoddard drew a walk that would send
Donuk in for the score. The Panthers erupted for 16 runs in
the third inning to take a 19-8 lead, while compiling 12 hits in
the inning. With two outs and the bases loaded Old Westbury
rallied to take the lead. Aliya Robertson singled to bring
around Shanelle Brown and Traci Weeks, followed by a 2-run double
off the bat of Jennifer Ragone that brought around Robertson and
Donuk. Traci Weeks then singled to bring in Jessica Stoddard
from third base and with the bases loaded; Shanelle Brown cleared
them with a grand slam, scoring Weeks, Boz and Ragone. Donuk
and Fraser hit back to back singles when Janera Johnson reached on
an error to load the bases for Aliya Robertson. Robertson
proceeded with a single that drove in Donuk and kept the bases
loaded for Jessica Stoddard. Stoddard then doubled to bring
around two Panthers, Johnson and Fraser. Ragone followed with
a single that drove in Robertson and Traci Weeks singled to drive
in Stoddard. Shanelle Brown would collect her sixth RBI of
the inning off a 2-run double that sent Boz and Ragone across the
plate for the 15th and 16th runs of the
inning.
With 19 runs in Old Westbury's favor, starting pitcher Traci
Weeks (4-5) allowed only 1 hit in 2 1/3 innings of work before
Nihal Boz closed out the game. Boz pitched 2 2/3 innings in
the circle and struck out 3 batters. Shanelle Brown led the
Panther offense with 6 RBI. Brown finished 3-for-3 at the
plate with 3 runs scored, a double and a grand slam. Brown
tallied 14 RBI in the double header wins over New Rochelle.
Jennifer Ragone went 2-for- 5 (3 RBI, 2 Runs, Double), Jessica
Stoddard went 2-for-2 (3 RBI, 3 Runs, Double) and Aliya Robertson
finished 2-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Traci Weeks helped out her own cause, going 2-for-3 at the plate
with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Huriye Donuk added 3 runs as
she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI and Nihal
Boz scored twice and knocked in 1 RBI in the game two win over New
Rochelle.
The Panthers return to Skyline action on Saturday, April 14 for
a battle amongst Panthers and Rams as Farmingdale State will be
hosted for a double header at the Jackie Robinson Athletic
Complex. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. For more
