MEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT MOUNT SAINT MARY

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY College at Old
Westbury men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Mount Saint
Mary College on Saturday afternoon at the Elaine and William Kaplan
Athletic Field. Old Westbury falls to 1-2 in league play with
an overall record of 3-6 while Mount Saint Mary improves to 3-1 in
conference action and 4-7 on the season.
Junior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) posted the lone
Panther goal at the 19:25 mark on a free kick that he fired to the
far left post for the score. Mount Saint Mary responded in
the 25th minute when Agustin Ponce netted a goal to the
far right post on an assist by Nick Morse to knot the game at
1-1. It wasn't until the 37:24 mark when Jon Gasiewski
slotted a pass to John Como who tacked on the game winner on a shot
that was fired from the top of the box into the back of the net
over the outstretched arms of sophomore keeper Darian Bryan
(Elmont, N.Y.).
After edging the Panthers in the first half, 9-6 the Blue
Knights outshot Old Westbury in the second half, 13-7 to take a
22-13 advantage in the shot department. The Blue Knights held
a slim 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Old Westbury keeper Darian Bryan recorded six saves and allowed
two goals in 90 minutes while Paul Aries was in goal for the Blue
Knights, totaling nine saves to contribute to the victory.
The Green and Ivory will return to action on Wednesday, October
15th at Purchase College for a Skyline Conference
