Boxscore
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury women's soccer team suffered a non-conference loss,
falling to Rutgers-Newark University 3-0 Saturday afternoon at
Panther Park. Old Westbury moved to 4-7 on the season while
the Scarlet Raiders improved to 7-5-1.
Ashley Jironza's goal on an assist by Julia Caseras just five
minutes into the match was all the Scarlet Raiders need, as Old
Westbury was held to six shots, compared to 28 by the
opposition. Later in the first half, Rutgers-Newark took a
2-0 lead in the 36th minute as a free kick played into
the box found Caseras who sank a header to the far post on an
assist by teammate Liana Abreu. The Panthers trailed 2-0
through the first half due in part a 14-1 Scarlet Raider shot
advantage. Caseras put the game out of reach in the
83rd minute as she fired a laser off a penalty kick that
landed just past the outstretched arms of sophomore keeper Deborah
Ciccarelli (St. James, N.Y.) to give her team a 3-0 lead.
Old Westbury was edged 3-1 in the corner kick department in
addition to a 10-1 shots on goal advantage for the Scarlet
Raiders. Ciccarelli stopped seven shots while opposing keeper
Kat Renteria had one save.
The Green and Ivory will return to action on Wednesday, October
15th at non-conference opponent College of Staten
Island. Kick off is slated for 4:00 p.m. Please visit
