OCTOBER 25, 2008

Boxscore

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team shutout conference rival Farmingdale State, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Panther Park to hand the Rams their first conference loss of the season.  Old Westbury now sits at 6-7 on the season and 4-3 in league play while Farmingdale State moves to 9-6-1 overall and 6-1 in conference action.

Senior John Senatore (Ridge, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute to defeat the visiting Rams as he rebounded a miss by sophomore Justin Leakey (Baldwin, N.Y.) for the score.  It was Leakey's shot at the 83:57 mark, however, that doubled the lead. He received the ball off a feed from junior Conor McKeon (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) on a breakaway and fired the ball into the back of the net, catching the Rams' goalkeeper, Patrick Gubbins, off his line to give the Panthers a commanding two goal lead.  Old Westbury defended well for the rest of the match to come away with the 2-0 victory.

The Panthers were outshot 22-13, while Farmingdale State finished with a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.  Leakey finished the night with a team-leading four shots, while sophomore Daniel Lepe (Hempstead, N.Y.) posted three and five other Panthers added single or double attempts.

Between Old Westbury's pipes, sophomore Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y.) was stellar in goal, tallying nine saves, including five in the second half to notch his second shutout this season.  Patrick Gubbins made five saves for Farmingdale State.

The Green and Ivory will return to action on Tuesday, October 28th to welcome conference foe, Mount Saint Vincent College to Panther Park.  A special Senior Night presentation will take place to honor Ragi Burton, Tom Cully, Alishan Halajian, Jorge Roman and John Senatore before the 4:00 p.m. kickoff.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's soccer or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
