OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury Softball team breezed past the Bridges of Brooklyn College
on Tuesday evening at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
Old Westbury dropped Brooklyn College, 8-0 in the first game and
followed with a 5-0 shutout in game two. Old Westbury evens
up at 4-4 overall while Brooklyn College starts off the season,
0-2.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Ashley Esposito
and Jessica Stoddard scored twice to lead the Panthers offensive
attack. Esposito went 2-for-3 including a pair of singles,
two runs batted in and one stolen base while Stoddard (1-for-2)
drove in one Panther and swept one base. Deborah Ciccarelli
(1-for-3) helped out her own cause with a double, two runs batted
in and one score.
Bridges at the plate (Game 1): Nataly Yehezkel
recorded the lone hit for Brooklyn College with a leadoff single in
third inning. Christina McDonnell reached base three times
due in part to three walks.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Deborah
Ciccarelli (2-4) tossed five innings in the circle to earn the
win. Ciccarelli sat down seven Bridges on strikes despite
handing out five free passes.
Bridges on the mound (Game 1): Jaime Bellettini
(0-1) threw four and two thirds of an inning while striking out
eight Panthers. Bellettini was charged with eight runs (3
earned) on six hits and handed out two free passes.
Game Notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit
Brooklyn College, 6-1, including 1-0 in the extra base hits
column. On the base path, Old Westbury shutout Brooklyn
College, 4-0. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out seven
Bridges compared to Brooklyn College striking out eight
Panthers. In the field, Brooklyn College committed four
errors while the Green and Ivory were
flawless.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Maria Canino
led the Panthers with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the
plate. Canino tripled and clubbed an inside the ball park
homerun to finish with three runs batted in and two scores.
Ashley Esposito followed with a pair of singles, one score and one
stolen base while Nicole Rescigno hit 1-for-2 and drove in one
Panther.
Bridges at the plate (Game 2): Jenna Ferrara
connected on the lone hit for Brooklyn College on a single to
finish 1-for-2 at the plate. Christina McDonnell. Ashley
Allen, Jamie Bellettini and Kaylin Taunton each reached base on
free passes.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Deborah
Ciccarelli (3-4) threw three innings of one hit softball in the
circle before Angela Adamkiewicz closed out the final two innings
for the combined shutout. Ciccarelli struck out four and
walked four while Adamkiewicz sent three Bridges back to the dugout
on strikes.
Bridges on the mound (Game 2): Nicole Bianco
(0-1) pitched four innings and struck out two Panthers.
Bianco surrendered five runs (3 earned) on five hits and handed out
three free passes.
Game Notes (Game 2): Old Westbury out-hit
Brooklyn College, 5-1, including 2-0 in the extra base hits
column. On the base path, Old Westbury swept two bases as the
Panther catcher's shutdown the Bridges. On the mound, Old
Westbury struck out seven Bridges compared to Brooklyn College
striking out two Panthers. In the field, Brooklyn College
committed two errors while the Green and Ivory had one.
Old Westbury returns to action on Sunday, March 30h
to open league play at St. Joseph's College-Long Island. For
