OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury Softball team swept past non-conference opponent,
Briarcliffe College on Wednesday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson
Athletic Complex. Old Westbury improves to 9-7 overall while
Briarcliffe College falls to 13-3 on the season.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Maria Canino
(2-for-3, SB) hit a pair of singles to lead the Panthers to
victory. Canino scored two runs as both Deborah Ciccarelli
(1-for-3) and Huriye Donuk (1-for-3) each drove in two
Panthers. Crystal Rodriguez (1-for-2) singled home Traci
Weeks (1-for-3) in the second inning. Jessica Stoddard
(0-for-2) and Ashley Esposito (0-for-2, SB) each scored one run.
Seahawks at the plate (Game 1): Sherrida
Maxwell (1-for-2) and Toni-Ann Puglissi (0-for-4, SB) each scored
one run to lead Briarcliffe College. Tori Boschert (1-for-2)
tripled while Angela Mohamed (1-for-2) and Samantha Koenig
(1-for-3) each singled.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Deborah
Ciccarelli (7-7) recorded a complete game victory after striking
out five Seahawks. Ciccarelli allowed two runs (1 earned) on
four hits and handed out four free passes.
Seahawks on the mound (Game 1): Emily Lamana
tossed six innings in the circle and gave up five runs (4 earned)
on six hits. Lamana struck out 11 Panthers and walked two.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury edged
Briarcliffe College in the hit column, 6-4 while the Seahawks
recorded a triple for the lone extra base hit of the game. On
the base path, Old Westbury stole two bases and stranded three as
Briarcliffe College stole two out of four bases and left five
Seahawks on base. In the field, Old Westbury committed six
errors and Briarcliffe had two. On the mound, Old Westbury
struck out five Seahawks and walked four while Briarcliffe College
struck out 11 Panthers and walked two.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Traci Weeks
(1-for-3, SB) singled home both Huriye Donuk (0-for-2) and Angela
Adamkiewicz (1-for-2, SB) in the second inning to lead the Panthers
to victory. Adamkiewicz collected the lone extra base hit for
the Panthers with a double in the second inning. Deborah
Ciccarelli (0-for-2) drove in Jessica Stoddard (0-for-2) on a
sacrifice fly to left field in the third inning. Ashley
Esposito (1-for-3), Maria Canino (0-for-3) and Crystal Rodriguez
(0-for-1) each scored one run.
Seahawks at the plate (Game 2): Angela Mohamed
(2-for-3) and Sherrida Maxwell (2-for-2) led the Seahawks.
Mohamed singled and doubled to drive in two runs and scored one
while Maxwell hit a pair of singles and drove in one Seahawk.
Toni-Ann Pugissi (0-for-4), Laura McTaggart (1-for-4, 2B) and
Elisha Rioford (1-for-2) each scored one run.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Angela
Adamkiewicz (2-0) notched her second victory of the season after
throwing six innings and striking out three. Adamkiewicz
allowed four earned run on 10 hits while give out two walks.
Seahawks on the mound (Game 2): Emily Lamana
suffered the loss after going five innings in the circle and
striking out three. Lamana allowed six runs (2 earned) on
three hits and issued four walks.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury was out-hit,
10-3 including 3-1 in the extra base hit department. On the
base path, Old Westbury stole five bases and stranded four while
Briarliffe College left nine Seahawks on base. In the field,
Old Westbury committed one error as Briarcliffe College had
five. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out three and walked
two as Briarcliffe College had three strikeouts and four
walks.
Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Saturday, April
12th at Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Mary
College. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 12
