N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury
Women's volleyball team, under the guidance of Marjahna Segers,
fell to former Skyline Conference opponent, Merchant Marine on
Wednesday night on the road. Old Westbury drops to 0-5 on the
season while the Mariners open up at 1-0.
The Mariners, who won the match 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-18,
25-12), were led by Jess LaValley who tallied a game-high 17 kills
and 10 blocks. Teammate Jenna Palaschak dished out 35
assists.
The Panthers were paced by sophomore Siobhan West, who had 27
assists and six digs. Jessica Pozo and Tynisha George led the
offensive strike with eight kills. On the defensive front,
Pozo and Serena McGrath each had 19 digs while George contributed
with 15.
Old Westbury will return to action on Saturday, September
6th to host the Old Westbury Panther Invitational, which
will run through Sunday. The Green and Ivory will take on
Brooklyn College in the opening match of the Old Westbury Panther
Invitational. First serve is slated for 10:00 a.m. To
