MORRISTOWN, NJ (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team recorded its 12th sweep in the last 13 matches, defeating the Saint Elizabeth Eagles 25-12, 25-20, 25-23 on Wednesday evening at Saint Joseph Hall in Morristown, New Jersey. The win moved Old Westbury to 16-14 on the season while the Eagles slipped to 6-17.
Junior Ashley Greene (Bay Shore, NY) led the Panthers with nine kills as the team recorded a .065 hitting percentage on the night. Sophomore Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY) spread the ball around, recording 19 assists in the three-set match. Girodano led all the Panthers hitters with a .250 attack percentage with three kills and zero errors in 12 total swings. Greene also hit well with six errors in 23 total attempts for a. 130 hitting percentage. As a team, Old Westbury finished the match hitting .065 with 28 total kills, 21 errors in 107 attempts. Freshman Shari Quiles (Bronx, NY) served up three of Old Westbury's six aces. Quiles chipped in with four kills and three digs.
The Panthers set the tone defensively, holding the Eagles to a -.025 hitting percentate and recording 4.5 blocks led by sophomore Tonya Miller (Nyack, NY), who had two in pacing Old Westbury. Old Westbury recorded 28 digs to the Saint Elizabeth's 20. Kristina Giordano and sophomore Tynishia George (Medford, NY) paced Old Westbury with seven each, while freshman Tinamarie French (North Babylon, NY) had five.
