- The No. 3-seeded SUNY College at Old Westbury men'
soccer team (11-8-1) scored two second-half goals to put away the
sixth-seeded Bard Raptors (7-9-2) by a final score of 3-1 in a
Skyline Conference Championship quarterfinal match on Wednesday
afternoon at Panther Park in Old Westbury, New York.
With the win, the Panthers advance to the semifinal round of the
Skyline Conference Championship. Old Westbury will face the
No. 2 seed in the tournament, the Farmingdale State Rams, on
Friday, November 6 at 2 p.m. in Farmingdale.
Old Westbury lit up the scoreboard first as senior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, NY) settled a pass from classmate Edwin Mejia (Uniondale, NY) at the 39 minute mark to give the Panthers a
1-0 lead. Old Westbury went into halftime with an 11-4
advantage in the shooting department. Bard came out from the
break and broke their scoring drought when in the 60th
minute when sophomore Casey Asprooth-Jackson (Rochester, NY) sent a
pass to classmate Jacob Hartug (San Francisco, CA) to knot the game
a 1-1. Sophomore
A little over four minutes later, sophomore German Parodis (Mar
del Plata, Argentina) scored the eventual game-winner at the 63:03
mark. Freshman Brian Hanley (East Islip, NY) was credited
with an assist of the goal.
In the 83rd minute, the Panthers added to their lead
after freshman Joseph Zorbo (Baldwin, NY) took a pass from junior
Andrew Holder (Bellport, NY) and knocked the ball past Bard
sophomore keeper Deven Connelly (High Falls, NY) to give Old
Westbury a 3-1 advantage to close out the scoring for the
game.
While the offense clicked in the victory with a trio of goals,
Old Westbury's defense also excelled in the match, holding its
opponent scoreless in the second half. Junior goalkeeper
Darian Bryan (Elmont, NY) earned the victory and was forced to make
one save in 90 minutes of action. Deven Connelly took the
loss, making four saves and allowing three goals in a losing effort
for Bard.
FARMINGDALE STATE NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old
Westbury will take on the Farmingdale State Rams in a Skyline
Conference semifinal battle on Friday, November 6th in
Farmingdale for a rematch of the 2008 semifinal. Kick-off is
