PANTHERS ADVANCE TO SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

NOVEMBER 6, 2009

Old Westbury at Farmingdale State Boxscore

FARMINGDALE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team is heading back to the Skyline Conference Championship game for the second time in three years after defeating second-seeded Farmingdale State, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.  The Panthers improve to 12-8-1 on the season while Farmingdale State falls to 8-8-1.

The Panthers controlled the tempo the majority of the contest.  It wasn't until the 41:50 mark when the scoreboard first lit up, when freshman Brian Hanley (East Islip, NY) scored his second goal of the season to give Old Westbury a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.

Junior Ugur Kahveci (North Babylon, NY) doubled the Old Westbury advantage with an unassisted goal at the 52:19 mark, his third of the season.  Farmingdale State responded moments later in the 57th minute when freshman Mateusz Aniolowski (Copiague, NY) found classmate Joe Brantmeyer (Center Moriches, NY) for the score to cut the Old Westbury lead in half.  Old Westbury added an insurance goal at the 80:50 mark when senior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, NY) hooked up with classmate Edwin Mejia (Uniondale, NY) for his third score of the season, giving the Panthers a commanding 3-1 lead.  The assist was Santibanez's team-leading 12th of the season.  Farmingdale State's senior Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, NY) brought the Rams within striking distance after netting a goal off an assist from sophomore Michael Curatolo (East Meadow, NY).

On the contest, the Rams outshot the Panthers, 20-13 and held a 6-0 advantage in corners, despite not coming away with the victory.  Junior Darian Bryan (Elmont, NY) was solid in net for the Panthers, making five stops while his counterpart, senior Michael Gubbins (East Patchogue, NY) had three saves in a losing effort.

The third-seeded Panthers advance to the Skyline Conference Championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Corman, New York at Diamond in the Pines versus the top-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. Eagles.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's soccer or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
