Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) dumped in a career-high 42 points in addition to eight assists and seven steals but Staten Island found its stride in the first half outscoring the Panthers 41-26 to secure a 91-82 win Wednesday evening at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center. The Panthers moved to 3-1 on the road and 6-3 overall with the loss while Staten Island improves to 3-5.
In the first half, it looked as though Staten Island could coast to its win, taking a 14 point lead on a triple by senior Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY) with 13:13 minutes left in the stanza. Staten Island grabbed its biggest lead of the half with 52 seconds to play on a three-pointer by McLaughlin, putting Staten Island up, 41-24.
Staten Island held a 15-point lead at the half, 41-26, but Old Westbury outscored the Dolphins 56-50 in the second half.
Krystina Agard scored eight of Old Westbury's first 16 points in the second half to bring the Panthers as close 49-42 with 16:27 left before Katelyn Hepworth hit the front end of a pair of free throws to spur a 10-0 run. Anica Antoine (Staten Island, NY) sank a triple with 8:43 to give Staten Island their largest lead of the game, 73-54. The Panthers outscored Staten Island 28-18 over the final 8:43 to drop their second straight game, including three of their last four outings.
Agard was 10-of-22 from the floor, 21-of-27 from the line and had eight assists, seven steals, five rebounds and one swat. Senior
Carlie Moore (Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY) registered 19 points to close out the double digit scoring for Old Westbury. Moore hit 5-of-13 from downtown in 30 minutes. Junior
Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) added eight points, seven rebounds (five offensive) and three steals in 23 minutes. Senior
Krystal Garner (Staten Island, NY) ripped down nine boards, including eight off the offensive glass and freshman
Katelin Kube (West Babylon, NY) had five pull-downs (four offensive). Freshman
Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with five points and five boards in 17 minutes off the bench.
Staten Island's senior Kristen Panariello (Staten Island, NY) had a backwards quadruple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 turnovers. She was one of three Dolphins in double figures as junior Allie Shanahan (Staten Island, NY) and Danielle McLaughlin both dropped 23 while combining to hit 7-of-13 from outside the arc.
The Panthers shot 35.6 percent (26-of-73) from the field, 8-of-21 from trey land and 22-of-29 from the charity stripe. Staten Island connected of 50 percent (29-of-58) from inside the arc, 10-of-22 from long distance and 23-of-35 from the line. Old Westbury controlled the boards, holding 46-42 advantage, including 25-14 off the offensive glass. Staten Island turned 34turnovers into 40 points, while the Panthers had 38 points off 36 Staten Island miscues.
