OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team remains perfect on the season after posting a 90-50 Skyline Conference victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday evening at the Clark Athletic Center. The win moves Old Westbury to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play while Yeshiva falls to 1-6 and 0-5, respectively. Freshman
Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) set a career-high with 26 points to lead all players.
Old Westbury opened the game on a tear, scoring 14 of the first 16 points, including the first 13 of the game. Yeshivas then outscored Old Westbury 21-17 to cut into the Panthers' 31-23 lead with 3:37 remaining in the opening half. Old Westbury used a 15-6 run to open up a 46-29 advantage heading into half-time.
Old Westbury came out of the halftime break stretching the lead to 26 with a 66-40 lead with 10:12 remaining. The Panthers then outscored the Maccabees 24-10 over the final 9:19 en route to a 90-50 conference opening victory.
Agard lit up the score sheet for a career-best 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor, knocking down 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the stripe. She added eight boards (five offensive), four steals and two blocked shots in 31 minutes. Senior
Krystal Garner (Staten Island, NY) followed with 19 points and 14 rebounds (10 offensive). Junior
Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) registered a double-double, combining 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals. Sophomore
Courtney Milton (Bronx, NY) grabbed 12 rebounds and freshman
Katelin Kube (West Babylon, NY) had 11. Seniors
Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) and
Carlie Moore (Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY) ripped away four steals apiece while junior
Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY) had three.
Junior Shir Fuchs (Herzilyah, Israel) led the way with 22 points for Yeshiva. Junior Avi Varnai (Chicago, IL) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while seniors Lauren Kempin (Fair Lawn, NJ) and Jaclyn Ramras (Woodmere, NY) had six apiece.
Old Westbury finished the game shooting 39.1 percent from the field (36-of-92), while holding Yeshiva to 26.5 percent shooting (13-of-49). Old Westbury dominated the glass, finishing with a 69-32 advantage, while also forcing Yeshiva into 33 turnovers, compared to 22 by the home team. Old Westbury also finished with 12 assists, led by
Krystina Agard, who finished with a game-high four.
