PANTHER BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM MOUNT SAINT VINCENT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team posted a double-header sweep of Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Vincent, in Old Westbury at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex on Saturday, as the Panthers followed up a 1-0 win with a 5-3 victory in game two.  Old Westbury is now 6-4 on the year and 3-0 in conference action while the Dolphins fell to 4-7 and 0-2.

Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Sophomore Ryan Blanco (Ozone Park, N.Y.) delivered the big blow off a double in the second inning to drive home classmate Emmanuel Mateo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from third for the game winner.  Sophomore Steven Henriquez (N. Babylon, N.Y.) stroked a pair of singles and went 2-for-3 at the plate.    

Dolphins at the plate (Game 1): Mike Ruckdaschel paced the offense for Mount Saint Vincent, going 2-for-3 at the plate.  Nick Triolo went 1-for-3 with a double.   

Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Junior Robert Whitenack (N. Massapequa, N.Y.) did the job on the hill for the Panthers, going the distance in nine scoreless innings en route to his third victory of the season.  Whitenack (3-1) registered 11 strikeouts and allowed three hits and handed out two free passes.

Dolphins on the mound (Game 1): Corey Kirsh took the loss in a complete game outing, allowing one run on six hits.  Kirsh had four strikeouts and six walks. 

Game Notes (Game 1): Old Westbury edged Mount Saint Vincent in the hitting department, 6-3 and drew even (1-1) in extra base hits.  On the base path, Old Westbury stole four bases out of five and Mount Saint Vincent was gunned down in their lone attempt.  On the mound, Old Westbury fanned 11 batters and walked two as Mount Saint Vincent had four strikeouts and issued six walks.

Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Junior Robert Moschetto (Massapequa, N.Y.) singled home classmate Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Anthony Fernandez (Bethpage, N.Y.) to give the Panthers a 4-0 advantage in the second inning.  Bevacqua recorded three walks and scored twice to provide some offense for the Panthers.  Junior Joseph Manzella (N. Babylon, N.Y.) drove in one run on two hits, helping the club pick up the win.       

Dolphins at the plate (Game 2): Carrying the team on his bat, Josh Cuozzo went 1-for-3 with two RBI.  Joe Blackford (1-for-3) singled home Mike Ruckdaschel (0-for-2, 2 BB. 2 R) from second in the seventh inning.

Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Lasting five innings, junior Dan Fordyce (Brentwood, N.Y.) scattered three hits and struck out one to earn his first win of the season.  Sophomore Jorge Hiraldo (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who entered the game in the sixth inning, notched his first save, picking up the slack for freshman Biondis Vasquez (Elmont, N.Y.).  Hiraldo was called on with the bases loaded, struck out the first two Dolphins and retired James Labartino to get out the jam.   

Dolphins on the mound (Game 2): Anthony Mongelli was tagged with the loss, going the first six and a third innings while surrendering five runs (4 earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks. 

Game Notes (Game 2): Old Westbury held the advantage in hits, holding an 8-6 margin.  On the base path, Old Westbury had two stolen bases out of four attempts while Mount Saint Vincent was 0-for-1.  On the defensive front, Old Westbury committed two errors (Albert Bevacqua, Ryan Blanco) and Mount Saint Vincent had three ( John McManus, Brendan Russo, Anthony Mongelli).  On the mound, Old Westbury registered three strikeouts with five walks as Mount Saint Vincent had five strikeouts and four walks.
