Westbury vs. Maritime Boxscore
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury baseball extended its win streak to six with an 8-3
victory over Skyline Conference opponent, Maritime College, 8-3, at
the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury on Wednesday
afternoon. The win moves Old Westbury to 9-4 on the season
and 5-0 in conference play while the Privateers fall to 2-6 and
0-2.
Panthers at the plate: Freshman Nestor Bussi
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled to knock in sophomore Emmanuel Mateo
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) from third in the third inning and went 3-for-4 at
the plate to provide some offense for the Panthers. Mateo
clubbed a double and drove in two runs to hit 1-for-3. Junior
Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) set the table, going 2-for-4
with two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Anthony Fernandez
(Bethpage, N.Y.) and classmate Ryan Blanco (Ozone Park, N.Y.) each
stroked a pair of singles while Fernandez scored two runs to finish
2-for-4 at the dish.
Privateers at the plate: Ryan Simpson collected
a pair of hits in three trips to the plate for Maritime. John
Gould (1-for-1) clubbed a double while Kyle Rockefeller (1-for-3)
and Matt Jernegan (1-for-3) each drove in one run.
Panthers on the mound: Freshman Biondis Vasquez
(Elmont, N.Y.) captured his first win in going five innings of five
hit baseball. Vasquez gave up two runs and struck out one
before junior Robert Whitenack (North Massapequa, N.Y.) pitched a
scoreless sixth inning. Sophomore Jorge Hiraldo (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) closed out the final inning with one strikeout while giving
up one run (0 earned) on two hits.
Privateers on the mound: Starter Matthew
Creswell was roughed up for six runs (5 earned) on 11 hits in five
innings on the hill. Cresswell struck out one batter before
Ryan Simpson was tagged for two runs (0 earned) on one hit in the
sixth inning.
Game Notes: Old Westbury out hit Maritime
12-7. On the base path, Old Westbury stole three bases and
stranded six compared to Maritime, who left four on base. In
the field, Old Westbury turned a double-play and committed two
errors (Biondis Vasquez, Albert Bevacqua) while Maritime had five
miscues (Matthew Cresswell, AJ McPartlan (3), John Bonner).
On the mound, Old Westbury fanned two batters and walked one as
Maritime had two strikeouts.
