OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team celebrated Jackie Robinson Day by taking two games from former Skyline Conference foe, Centenary College on Wednesday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers took game one 3-1 before pounding out 15 hits in a 9-8 win to sweep the twin bill.  Old Westbury improves to 15-10 on the season while the Cyclones slip to 10-15.

Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Sophomore Steve Sciame (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was the catalyst on offense, going 2-for-2 with two RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored.  Senior Ben Farmer (Three Mile Bay, N.Y.) singled through the left side in the fourth inning to drive in Sciame.  Juniors Bill Campbell (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Joe Manzella (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored in the second and fourth innings, respectively. 

Cyclones at the plate (Game 1):  Giving the offense a mild boost were freshman Chris Smith (Washington, N.J.) and sophomore Louis Penna (East Haven, CT), who singled to account for the lone hits for Centenary.  Junior Andrew Granozio (Liverpool, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning and late scored the only Cyclone run of the game. 

Panthers on the mound (Game 1):
 Junior Robert Hugli (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won the game in relief of junior Dan Fordyce (Brentwood, N.Y.), allowing one run on two walks working one inning.  Fordyce allowed two hits in the opening three frames.  Junior Robert Whitenack (North Massapequa, N.Y.) pitched two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts before sophomore Jorge Hiraldo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) closed out the seventh inning with two strikeouts to notch save number four on the season.      

Cyclones on the mound (Game 1):  Freshman Mark Delannoy (New Egypt, N.J.) took the loss to drop to 3-1 on the season despite a solid outing.  Delannoy hurled six innings allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits and two walks to go with three strikeouts. 

Game Notes (Game 1):  Old Westbury edged Centenary in hits, 6-2 while registering five stolen bases and stranding four runners as Centenary left two on.  On the defensive front, Centenary committed two miscues.  On the mound, Old Westbury had four strikeouts and three walks compared to Centenary, which had three strikeouts and two walks.    

Panthers at the plate (Game 2):  Junior Rob Moschetto (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored the winning run in the seventh inning on an error by the short stop off the bat of sophomore Steve Henriquez (North Babylon, N.Y.).  Moschetto went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and reached on two walks while Henriquez hit 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Sophomore Ryan Blanco (Ozone Park, N.Y.) sparked the offense, collecting three hits in five at-bats, including a single that scored Rob Moschetto in the opening frame.  Junior Albert Bevacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) belted a two-run homer to left field in the third inning to drive in Ben Farmer (1-for-2, RBI), going 2-for-5 with three RBI.  Sophomore Emmanuel Mateo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior John Taglienti (Shirley, N.Y.) each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Taglienti included a triple in the third inning.  Sophomore Fernando Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 at the dish with a double to left center to kick off the seventh.   

Cyclones at the plate (Game 2):  Freshman Jordan Wright (Harrisburg, PA) collected three hits, including two RBI and two runs scored to spur the offense.  Sophomore Jose Cordova (Brentwood, N.Y.) clubbed a pair of doubles to hit 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and an RBI.  Freshman Matt Andrews (Washington, N.J.) and freshman Anthony DeSomma (Clifton, N.J.) drove in two runs apiece while Andrews hit 2-for-3.    

Panthers on the mound (Game 2):  Robert Hugli emerged victorious, earning his fourth win of the season in relief of freshman starter Biondis Vasquez (Elmont, N.Y.), giving up no runs on two hits, while striking out two in 3.1 innings of work.  Vasquez lasted only one inning as surrendered four runs on four hits.  Senior David Collado (Copiague, N.Y.) was roughed up as he only pitched 2.2 innings, giving up four runs (2 earned) on five hits and four walks.

Cyclones on the mound (Game 2):  Freshman Mark Tannis (Pequannock, N.J.) took the loss in relief of sophomore starter Chris Stacy (Little Falls, N.J.), throwing 3.2 innings in relief.  Tannis allowed one run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Stacy, who went the opening three innings, was roughed up for eight runs (7 earned) on 11 hits and two walks. 

Game Notes (Game 2):  Old Westbury outslugged Centenary in the hitting department, 15-11, including 5-2 in the extra base hit column.  On the base path, Old Westbury stole three bags and stranded 14 runners while Centenary had two stolen bases and left eight runners on.  Defensively, Centenary had three errors and Old Westbury had one.  On the hill, Old Westbury struck out three and handed out seven free passes as Centenary had three strikeouts and five walks.
