Westbury vs. Baruch Boxscore
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury baseball team set a school record for wins with a 4-2
topping over Baruch College on Tuesday afternoon at the Jackie
Robinson Athletic Complex. The Panthers (26-11) notched a
program best 26th win of the season while the Bearcats
slip to 15-13-1.
Panthers at the plate: Junior Albert Bevacqua
(Staten Island, N.Y.) had another big offensive game.
Bevacqua went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and clubbed a
game-winning three run homer to left field in the seventh inning,
giving the Panthers a 4-2 advantage. Junior Joe Manzella
(North Babylon, N.Y.) registered two hits in four at-bats,
highlighted by a double down the right field line in the seventh
inning. Senior Ben Farmer (Three Mile Bay, N.Y.) and
sophomore Fernando Lopez (Bronx, N.Y.) each scored one run.
Bearcats at the plate: Joseph Valentin went
2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Bearcat
offense. David Chestnut knocked in two runs, going 1-for-3 at
the plate while Thomas Daly doubled to hit 1-for-4.
Panthers on the mound: Freshman Starter
Alexander Villanueva (Brooklyn, N.Y.) worked three innings of one
hit ball, striking out one and walking one before sophomore Joshua Burgos (New York, N.Y.) worked two innings in relief. Burgos
surrendered one run on two hits and registered two strikeouts
before freshman Biondis Vasquez (Elmont, N.Y.) tossed two innings
to pick up the win to improve to 3-0 on the year. Vasquez
allowed one unearned run on one hit and sat down two batters on
strikes. Senior Jake Tauber (Valley Stream, N.Y.) worked a
perfect eighth followed by sophomore Jorge Hiraldo (Brooklyn,
N.Y.), who closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts in the
ninth inning to record save number five on the season.
Bearcats on the mound: Jason Valentin was
pinned with the loss, dropping his record to 1-4 on the season,
giving up four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out
two. Daniel Kehoe threw 1.1 innings in relief of starter
Valentin, giving up one hit and striking out one.
Game Notes: Old Westbury outhit Baruch, 6-4 and
drew even in extra base hits, 2-2. On the base path, Old
Westbury stole three bags and stranded six runners on base while
Baruch was gunned down in two steal attempts and abandoned three
runners on base. Defensively, Old Westbury committed four
errors and Baruch had one. On the mound, Old Westbury struck
out seven and walked just one batter compared to Baruch, which
recorded three strikeouts and issued four walks.
The Green and Ivory will return to action on Friday, May
1st for the Second Round of the Skyline Conference
