NEW PALTZ, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury men's soccer team was edged 4-3 by New Paltz in a
non-conference battle on Saturday afternoon in New Paltz. The
loss drops Old Westbury to 2-3 on the season while New Paltz
improves to 3-0-1.
Old Westbury's offense was led by senior Fabian Santibanez
(Oyster Bay, N.Y.), who poured in third career hatrick as a
Panther, with goals in the 35th, 74th
(assisted by Mathais Coni) and 84th minute, but were
unable to overcome a 2-1 deficit at the end of the first
period.
With the match knotted at 2-2, New Paltz scored twice within :39
seconds to take a 4-2 lead, with goals scored by sophomore Tommy
Garafola (Richmond Hill, N.Y.) at the 78:54 mark and sophomore
junior Lucas Natel (Mineola, N.Y.) at the 79:33 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper William Montenegro (Brentwood, N.Y.)
allowed four goals and made six stops for Old Westbury while junior
Peter Carmel (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had four saves for the Hawks
to earn his third victory of the season.
Old Westbury was outshot in each half and 16-11 for the
match. The Hawks put up three more shots than the Panthers in
the first half, 7-4, and put up two more in the second stanza
(9-7). The Hawks also won the corners battle with 12 total
corners taken, compared to five from Old Westbury. The Hawks
were also called off sides seven times, compared to three for Old
Westbury.

host the Roadrunners of Ramapo College on Wednesday, Sept. 16 for a
