PANTHERS FALL TO FARMINGDALE STATE

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team fell for the sixth time this season as they could not get its offense on track against the Farmingdale State and fell to the Rams, 89-75, Thursday evening at the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury (8-6, 4-3 Skyline) dropped their second-straight game, while Farmingdale State (12-0, 7-0 Skyline) remains unbeaten on the season. 

Farmingdale State jumped out to a 10-3 lead, but Old Westbury scored five-straight to pull within 10-8 at the 14:52 mark. The Rams then pushed ahead, using a 15-7 run to make the score 25-15 with 8:31 left in the half. Old Westbury countered with 15-7 spurt of their own to cut the score down to 32-30, with 3:02 remaining. Farmingdale State carried a double-digit lead into the break, outscoring the Panthers 12-0 in the final minutes. 

Farmingdale State stretched a 12-point halftime lead early in the second half with a 13-4 spurt moments into the frame to that saw their lead peak at 21 at 55-34 on a layup by Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, NY). The Panthers cut the Farmingdale State lead down to 14 at the 6:43 mark on a layup by Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) and answered with a 10-3 run to push the lead back to 21. In the end, the deficit was just too much to overcome without steady shooting from the floor.

Krystina Agard paced the offense with a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds while Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) added 14 points, seven boards and three steals. Daniella Santos (Inwood, NY) followed with 13 points. Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY) led the Panthers with 10 boards before fouling out and Katelin Kube(West Babylon, NY) chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, NY) grabbed eight rebounds and nabbed three steals.

Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, NY) and Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, NY) combined for 49 to lead the Rams, scoring 28 and 21, respectively. Blakney finished with 13 rebounds, seven steals, five blocked shots and three steals while Miller had 13 rebounds and two steals. Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY) added 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench. 

The Panthers came away with 11 steals compared to 16 by Farmingdale State. Old Westbury shot 34.8 percent in the game, including 4-of-11 from three-point range and going 23-of-30 at the charity stripe. Farmingdale State shot 37.6 percent from the field, making 4-of-19 three-point attempts and sinking 21-of-34 from the line. Farmingdale state also committed 25 turnovers while the Panthers dished out nine assists and committed 36 turnovers on the evening, including 25 in the first half. They were also outrebounded 53-50.
