OLD WESTBURY RIDES TO 74-31 VICTORY OVER BARD

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team had four Panthers score in double-digits to lead them to a 74-31 Skyline Conference victory over the Bard Raptors Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center. The win extends Old Westbury's streak to two, improving their record to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in conference action. Bard fell for their 10th straight game, dropping to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in league play. 

Freshman Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) scored the first points of the contest and gave Old Westbury an early 2-0 lead off a layup. Bard went up early in the game with a 6-2 edge at the 16:28 mark, their largest lead of the game. Old Westbury found its form and never looked back as they went on a 22-1 run to grab a 24-7 lead with 3:59 remaining on the first half clock. Old Westbury led by double digits from the 5:37 mark on as junior Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY) found classmate Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) camping out in three-point territory to take a 19-7 (+12) lead. The Green and Ivory went into the locker room up, 30-13. 

Shannon Gilly flicked in two of her season high 13 points to cap off a 16-2 run to start the second half. Old Westbury led by as much as 43 points on three occasion en route to a 74-31 final. 

Krystina Agard led Old Westbury with 17 points, eight steals and seven assists. Gilly finished the game with 13 points (season-high) and 11 boards to notch her seventh career double-double (first since 2/26/08 vs. Mount Saint Vincent – 19 points, 11 rebounds). Brittany Jones had 13 points, six rebounds and four steals while freshman Katelin Kube (West Babylon, NY) totaled 10 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in 16 minutes off the bench. Senior Carlie Moore (Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY) scored six points and tied a career-high with six assists (originally set 11/24/09 vs. City Tech). Freshman Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, NY) contributed six points, four rebounds and two steals. 

Junior Latiqua Williams (Bay Shore, NY) was the only Raptor to reach double-digits in the scoring column, pacing Bard with 12 points. Williams finished with eight boards and two steals while freshman Imani Jones (Brooklyn, NY) and sophomore Angelica Glover (Union, NJ) each pulled-down nine rebounds. 

Old Westbury shot 27-of-68 (39.7%) in the contest, including 18-of-35 (51.4%) in the second half. From three-point range, the Panthers went 9-of-22 (40.9%), making 6-of-11 (54.5%) after the intermission. At the free throw line, the squad went 11-of-13 (84.6%), with a 9-of-9 (100%) performance in the first. Old Westbury saw significant contributions from reserves as the squad held a 19-2 edge in bench points. The Panthers converted 41 points off the Raptors 38 turnovers and allowed only 16 points in the paint. Bard won the boards battle, holding a 39-35 advantage, including 21-14 off the offensive glass.
