PANTHERS ROLL PAST YESHIVA, 90-37

QUEENS, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team rolled past the Yeshiva Maccabees, 90-37, Wednesday evening at the Samuel H. Wang Yeshiva University High School for Girls. The win was the third in a row for Old Westbury, improving to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in Skyline Conference action while the Maccabees dropped their seventh straight game, falling to 2-14 and 0-11, respectively. 

Old Westbury jumped out to a quick 14-3 lead with 13:42 on the first half clock and doubled the lead as Abigail Williams knocked down a jumper with 5:33 left to go up 34-12. The Panthers closed out the half on a 13-7 run to take a 47-19 lead into the locker room. 

Old Westbury started the second half on an 11-2 run with 16:54 on the clock, taking 58-21 lead off a jumper by junior Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY). Old Westbury took its biggest lead of the night on the strength of a layup by Shannon Gilly at the 8:28 mark to go up by 54 points, 82-28. 

Freshman Krystina Agard (Rosedale, NY) had a game-high 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting with five rebounds, four steals and one blocked shots to lead the Panthers while Shannon Gilly and 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) posted 11 efficient points, eight rebounds and four steals in 16 minutes and freshman Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, NY) notched 15 points and 18 rebounds. Junior Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) had a game-high eight steals as Old Westbury posted 20 takeaways. Jones finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. 

Yeshiva was led by Shir Fuchs, who was 5-of-14 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range with 13 points. Lauren Kempin scored 12 points, grabbed a team-high 10 boards and blocked a game-high eight shots. 

Abigail Williams, who pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds, paced the Panthers as they won the battle of the boards by a 62-41 margin. Old Westbury also outshot Yeshiva, 39.8 percent to 28 percent for the game. Yeshiva committed 44 turnovers to Old Westbury's 23; the Panthers converted those miscues into 43 points while Maccabees managed eight points off of turnovers.
