OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team's run at a conference championship came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers were defeated by the Mount Saint Mary Knights in the quarterfinals of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament, 1-0. The loss moves OW to 11-8 on the season and will await on a possible bid from the ECAC.
Old Westbury put up 21 shots, including four apiece from
Cassandra Esposito and
Stephanie Falzarano, but it was Mount Saint Mary's Jenna Donahue who converted the game's only goal in the 35th minute, helping the Knights most on to the semifinals. Mount Saint Mary will travel to Coram, New York to take on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles on Wednesday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m.
Early on, neither team could get much going offensively until the 34:25 mark when Jenna Donahue netted what proved to be the game-winner off a pass from Lex Heal. OW outshot Mount Saint Mary 11-4 in the first half and held the 21-8 advantage for the game. Both teams were even in corner kicks with two each.
Jennifer Kupfer took the one save loss for OW after totaling 64:33 in net before
Stephanie Zornberg made two stop in 25:27. Megan Cotta earned the win for the Knights, making nine saves to earn the blank sheet.
