www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team earned their third victory of the season and second in conference action with a 65-46 win over the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (1-4, 0-2 Skyline) on Thursday night in Riverdale, New York.
Two Panthers finished the night in double-figures led by
Kim Weathers and
Brittany Jones. Weathers scored a game-high 13 points and six assists to go with three steals. Jones chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals in her 24 minutes of court time, while
Deslyn Applewhaite and
Denise Zajonc added eight points each. OW shot 25-of-71 (35.2%) from the field, 4-of-11 (36.4%) from beyond the arc while outrebounding MSV, 55-50.
The Dolphins were led by Andree DeLeon with 10 points (2-10 FG). MSV shot 13-of-57 (22.8%) from the field.
OW came out strong in the first half as they opened up an 11-2 advantage just 4:14 into the game.
Abigail Williams scored a layup with 9:11 remaining in the half to extend OW's lead to 19 (26-7). MSV outscored went into the half way point with a 35-17 deficit.
The second half lead ballooned to as many as 25 points on two occasions as OW outscored MSV 30-29 over the final 20 minutes of play. OW's lead was never in jeopardy as they cruised to the 65-46 victory.
MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Saturday (Dec. 4), taking on the Mount Saint Mary Knights in a Skyline Conference road battle in Newburgh, New York at 1 p.m.
