MEN’S HOOPS STUNNED AT MOUNT SAINT MARY

OW will look to get back to its winning ways on Monday when they host Brooklyn for a non-conference battle

(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team lost on the road in a nail bitter, 73-72, at Skyline Conference foe, Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon in Newburgh, New York. The loss snapped OW's three game win streak against the Knights and moved the Panthers to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 against the Skyline Conference while MSM improved to 3-3 and 2-1, respectively.

Kevin Milella knocked down 3-of-4 from the line in the final 14 second and he sank a free-throw with five seconds remaining in the game to put MSM up 73-69. OW's Craig Wilson sank a three-pointer with one second left but wasn't enough for OW to overtake the Knights.

OW trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half, 46-33 with 17:45 remaining. The Panthers responded with a 17-3 run over the next 4:42 to take a 50-49 lead off a layup by Frantz Granjean. Craig Wilson gave OW their largest lead in the second half with a layup at the 12:44 mark to give the Panthers a 52-49 advantage. Carlos Valdez connected on a pair of free-throws with 4:39 left to put MSM ahead for good, 62-61.

Frantz Granjean scored a career-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and grabbed 10 boards to pace OW. Lester Prosper followed with 16 points and Jamal Little totaled 15 points, including three triples and two steals. Craig Wilson chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Kevin MIlella poured in 24 points and nabbed two steals to lead MSM to victory. Carlos Valdez registered a strong double-double, combining 17 points (13-15 FT) and 12 rebounds (seven offensive) while Joe Stabach added 10 points.

The Knights outshot Old Westbury 41.1 percent (23-56 FG)-to-38.2 percent (26-68 FG) from the field and 37.5 percent (6-of-16)-to-28.6 percent (6-of-21) from beyond the arc. OW knocked down 14-of-16 from the line (87.5%) while MSM hit 21-of-29 (72.4%). Old Westbury out-rebounded the Knights, 41-36, including a 15-13 advantage off the offensive glass. OW forced MSM into 18 turnovers, resulting in 22 points for the Panthers.

BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Monday (Dec. 6), taking on the Brooklyn Bulldogs in a non-conference showdown in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
