OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team posted a 93-76 win over the Brooklyn Bulldogs in non-conference action at the Clark Athletic Center on Monday evening. The win snapped OW's two game losing streak against Brooklyn and moved the Panthers to 2-3 on the season while the Bulldogs slipped to 3-4.
Back-to-back three pointers by
Jamal Little gave Old Westbury a 12-7 advantage at 13:57 and a trey by
Tyquan Moore with 9:11 remaining put OW on top 23-13. Brooklyn responded with a quick 7-0 run to close within three, 23-20, with 7:29 left on the first-half clock. OW countered with a 24-10 run over the final 7:08; of which
Frantz Granjean and
Tyquan Moore combined for 16 points to give the Panthers a 47-30 lead at half-time.
Brooklyn, however, scored the five points of the second half to cut into OW's lead. BC forced the Panthers into four early turnovers and used a 7-2 run to pull within 10 points, 49-39 with 16:56 remaining. Old Westbury's countered with a 19-10 run to grow their lead to 19, 68-49 at the 9:39 mark. Brooklyn would get as close as 10 points (80-70) off Ahmad Hemmingway three-pointer with 4:03 left on the clock, but OW closed out the game on a 13-6 run to preserve the victory.
Four Panthers scored in double figures, led by the inside presence of Frantz Granjaen,
Lester Prosper and
Hilton Sneed, who combined for 55 points, 36 rebounds and seven blocks. Granjean posted his second straight double-double, combining a career-high 30 points (13-19 FG) and 12 rebounds (tied career-high) in 26 minutes off the bench. Prosper had his fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks while Sneed added seven points, 10 rebounds (career-high) and two blocks (tied career-high).
Jamal Little hit for 15 points and connected on 3-of-3 from three-point land and
Tyquan Moore knocked down three trey and finished with 12 points.
Craig Wilson dished out seven assists and
Tymel Ambrose added six off the bench.
Brooklyn's Amil John was one of four Bulldogs that finished in double digits. John totaled 24 points and three steals, while Ahmad Hemingway finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and two blocks. Darnell Cudjoe went for 13 points and three steals and Tyshawn Russell contributed 11 points and three steals.
For the third time this season the Panthers outrebounded their opponent, posting a +24 edge on the boards and outscoring Brooklyn in second chance points, 25-10. The Panthers outshot Brooklyn 48 percent (36-75 FG)-to-35.7 percent (25-70 FG) from the field and 60 percent (6-10 3FG)-to-20 percent (5-25 3FG) from three point territory. OW knocked down 15-of-21 from the line (71.4%) while BC hit 21-of-30 (70%). Brooklyn forced OW into 21 turnovers, resulting in 24 points for the Bulldogs.
ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Wednesday (Dec. 8), taking on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in a Skyline Conference showdown in Patchogue, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Danzi Center.
