www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team saw their perfect conference record come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 67-34 road loss against the Mount Saint Mary Knights. The loss moves OW to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play while Mount Saint Mary improves to 5-1 and 3-0, respectively.
OW was led in scoring by
Kim Weathers for the second straight game, totaling 12 points including two triples in 25 minutes of court time.
Deslyn Applewhaite hit for nine points and pulled down eight boards.
Abigail Williams chipped in with seven rebounds while
Brittany Jones nabbed three steals in 24 minutes off the bench. The Panthers shot 25.9 percent for the game (14-of-54) including 2-of-10 from beyond the arc (20%) and 4-of-11 at the line (36.4%). OW committed 21 costly turnovers that resulted in 27 Mount Saint Mary points.
MSM was led by the 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals of Jess Tice. Amanda Horvers followed with 13 points and Kate Hartnett added 10. Mount Saint Mary shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the field, 4-of-21 from three-point territory (19%) and sank 9-of-14 from the free-throw line (64.3%). The Knights outrebounded OW 48-35, including 19-13 off the offensive glass.
Both teams were knotted at 13 with 11:33 remaining in the opening half when MSM went on a 22-9 run to take a 35-22 half-time lead into the locker room. MSM came out of the half and put together a 19-7 run over the opening 7:36 to extend their lead to 25 (54-29). Charneic McCullough connected on a jumper with 1:27 left in regulation to give MSM their largest lead of the game, 67-32.
