FARMINGDALE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team fell 71-65 to conference rival, Farmingdale State on Thursday evening. The Panthers have lost four in a row and now sit at 11-11 overall and 6-9 in Skyline Conference action while Farmingdale State improved to 20-0 and 14-0, respectively.
After combining for six lead changes and 30 first half turnovers, Old Westbury held a slim 30-27 lead at the break. Old Westbury went down by as many as five in the first half and found themselves down 22-17 with 5:45 remaining on the clock.
Carlie Moore scored eight points to open the second half, putting Old Westbury ahead by 11 (38-27) with clock showing 17:46. Farmingdale State responded with a 17-5 run to grab a 44-43 lead with 12:50 remaining. They led the rest of the way. Farmingdale State went up by as many as 14 points (68-54) at the 4:05 mark.
Carlie Moore led Old Westbury's effort with a career-high 24 points and connected on 5-of-11 from downtown, tying a mark that she reached on three other occasions. Krystina Agard followed with 21 points on 14-of-15 from the stripe to go with four assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Avery Josey posted a double-double, combining 10 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in 27 minutes of court time. Brittany Jones contributed eight rebounds in 15 minutes and Shannon Gilly added two swats.
Kimberly Blakney scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half while grabbing 15 of her 26 boards in the final frame to lead Farmingdale State to victory. She added two steals, two blocked shots and two assists. Juanita Chappel chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
Old Westbury shot 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range. The Rams eight, blocked five shots and collected 17 steals. Farmingdale State connected on 29.7 percent (27-of-91) from the field, including 13.5 percent (5-of-37) from three-point territory. Old Westbury's defense forced 23 turnovers, leading to 28 points. Old Westbury held the 56-55 advantage in boards, while Farmingdale State enjoyed a 30-17 margin off the offensive glass. Those 30 offensive rebounds for Farmingdale State were turned into 31 second chance points.
