www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUN Y College at Old Westbury women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight contest, 78-43, against the Mount Saint Mary Blue Knights on Saturday afternoon in the Kaplan Center. The Panthers, who were held under 50 points for the second time this season, fell to 11-12 overall and 6-10 against the Skyline Conference play. Mount Saint Mary completed the regular-season sweep of Old Westbury and improved to 19-4 on the season and 15-1 in conference play.
Mount Saint Mary opened the game by scoring the first 18 points and taking a 20-point lead, 24-4, with 8:19 to play in the first half. Mount Saint Mary led by 23, 35-12, at the 4:14 mark and went into the half with a 43-17 advantage.
The Blue Knights scored nine straight points to open the second half to go up 52-17 before
Krystina Agard hit on a three-point play with 15:42 remaining on the clock. Mount Saint Mary grabbed their largest lead with 4:06 left, going up by 42 points, 74-32. Old Westbury was outscored, 35-26 in the second half.
Krystina Agard scored a game-high 25 points for the Panthers, hitting on 7-of-15 from the field, 5-of-8 from outside the arc and 6-of-7 from the stripe in 39 minutes of court time.
Abigail Williams chipped in with six points and four rebounds while
Daniella Santos contributed four points, four assists and two steals.
Chutney Burrowes pulled-down a team-high five boards.
Mount Saint Mary posted three players in double digits as Shannon Sangster led the way with 12 points in addition to nine rebounds for the Blue Knights. Jess Tice followed with 11 and eight rebounds while Natalie Garbie rounded out the trio with 10 points and two steals off the bench. The Blue Knights got five assists, four points, three steals and one blocked shot from Chrissy Zrowka.
The Panthers shot just 27.3 percent from the floor and committed 21 turnovers. Mount Saint Mary shot 46.6 percent, including 43.8 percent from three-point territory. Mount Saint Mary outrebounded Old Westbury, 45-26, including 16-6 off the offensive glass. Those 16 offensive rebounds resulting in 17 second chance points. Old Westbury committed 21 fouls that allowed Mount Saint Mary to capitalize on 17 of the 27 opportunities they had from the line. Old Westbury gave up 21 turnovers to Mount Saint Mary's 15. Old Westbury converted those 15 miscues into 11 points (2 points in the first half) while Mount Saint Mary managed 28 points off of 21 turnovers.
