BROOKLYN, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury freshman
Krystina Agard eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the 16th time this season, but the women's basketball team dropped a 79-55 decision to the NYU-Poly Fighting Blue Jays on Wednesday evening on the road. Old Westbury's setback moved them to 11-13 on the season and 6-11 against the Skyline Conference while NYU-Poly improved to 11-13 and 7-11, respectively.
NYU-Poly scored the first eight points of the game and extended their lead to double-digits (19-9) with 13:19 left on the first half clock. The Fighting Blue Jays extended their first half lead to 20, 33-13, on a 14-4 run with 6:28 remaining. The lead stretched to as much as 24 with 2:16 to play before a 5-2 Panther run to end the half. Old Westbury went to the locker room down, 21, 45-24.
Old Westbury got as close as 17, 45-29, with 16:52 remaining. NYU-Poly responded by outscoring the Panthers 32-19 over the next 12:42, taking a 29 point lead.
Chutney Burrowes hit a jumper with 1:18 left on the clock and a
Krystina Agard basket at the :30 mark closed out the scoring.
Krystina Agard had 24 points, nine rebounds, five steals and five assists to lead Old Westbury.
Daniella Santos followed with eight points and seven boards and
Carlie Moore scored seven with two swats.
Shannon Gilly grabbed nine rebounds and
Abigail Williams cleared five off the glass as both of them nabbed two steals each.
Margaux Pickell scored 28 points and pulled down 22 rebounds to go with four assists in 27 minutes for NYU-Poly. Kristen Leitheuser tallied 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals while Damei Mahama added 11 points and two steals.
The Fighting Blue Jays shot 37.3 percent from the field while Old Westbury hit 27.6 percent. NYU-Poly enjoyed a 73-42 edge on the glass, including 27-12 advantage off the offensive boards. NYU-Poly converted those 27 offensive rebounds into 20 points. Old Westbury managed nine assists and forced NYU-Poly into 21 turnovers, resulting in 15 Panther points.
