SHOOTING WOES COST WOMEN’S HOOPS IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE SETBACK

(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference game 70-59 against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins at the APEX Center at Lehman College Thursday evening. The setback puts Old Westbury (11-8) at 6-6 in conference play at the same time as Mount Saint Vincent (11-8) climbed to 8-5. 

After shooting 2-of-11 to open the contest and committing five turnovers, Old Westbury found themselves down 17-6 with 11:28 remaining in the first half. By the end of the first half, Mount Saint Vincent's advantage was extended to 12 points, 34-22. 

The Panthers' offense showed some life as the second half was concluding. Brittany Jones scored eight of Old Westbury's 20 points in a 20-1 run spanning from the 7:26 mark to 46 seconds remaining on the clock, pulling within five points, 64-59. Mount Saint Vincent iced the game on 5-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe down the stretch off one turnover, three fouls and one technical. 

Freshman Krystina Agard (Rosedale, NY) led Old Westbury for the ninth consecutive game and 16th overall as she netted 17 points (3-9 FG), including 10-of-11 from the stripe. Senior Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) and classmate, Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY), each posted double-doubles. Josey posted 13 points, 13 boards and three steals while Jones followed with 12 points and 13 pull-downs. Junior Shannon Gilly (Staten Island, NY) totaled eight points and 11 rebounds. 

Senior Jill Brady (Rockaway Beach, NY) was the top scorer for Mount Saint Vincent, putting in 23 points on the night. Senior Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY) scored 14 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the free throw line to go along with six assists. Senior Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY) contributed with 13 points, nine rebound and five steals. Senior Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) added 12 points and hit three treys before fouling out. 

Old Westbury won the battle of the boards, 56-42, turning 16 offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points. Both teams were cold from the field as Old Westbury outshot Mount Saint Vincent, 31.1 percent (19-of-61) to 27 percent (17-of-63). Old Westbury's 26 fouls and three technical's led to Mount Saint Vincent connecting on 29-of-38 (76.3%) from the line while the Panthers knocked down 20-of-26 (76.9%). Old Westbury committed 20 turnovers to Mount Saint Vincent's 13; the Dolphins converted those miscues into 30 points while the visiting Panthers managed eight points off of turnovers. Avery Josey registered two assists to pace Old Westbury, which was held under 10 assists for the seventh time this season, finishing with six helpers compared to just eight from Mount Saint Vincent.
