OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball
team swept a doubleheader against the Yeshiva Maccabees on Wednesday evening at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, winning the first game 5-0 and the second game 17-4 in seven innings. The Panthers improved to 4-8 on the season and 2-2 in Skyline Conference action while Yeshiva dipped to 0-12 and 0-9.

Jason Kondra broke a scoreless tie in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Ali Ferrerias from second base. Old Westbury added two more runs in the fifth inning as Kondra scored on an error to go up 2-0. Two batters later, Robert Moschetto singled in Anthony Fernandez from third. Old Westbury added two more runs in the eighth inning. Albert Bevacqua scored off an error and Ronald Petito singled to drive home Ferrerais to close out the scoring in game one.
In the first game, Jason Kondra paced the club with three hits and finished 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored, one RBI and two stolen bases. Anthony Fernandez, Ronald Petito, Ali Ferrerais and Albert Bevacqua collected two hits each while Ferrerais scored two runs.

Ryan Jarvis made his first start of the season and went five innings to improve to 1-0 on the year. Jarvis surrendered just one hit and struck out a career-high six batters before Bobby Hugli, Kevin Briffa and Abel Guerrero worked four innings of relief to notch the combined shutout. OW pitching registered 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits and one walk.

Seth Fein led Yeshiva at the plate with a pair of singles in four at-bats. David Kesselman dropped to 0-3 on the year for Yeshiva, working seven innings and gave up two earned runs on nine hits.
Game two saw the Panthers score early and often, putting 17 runs on the board, which included a 10-run fifth inning.

The Panthers finished with 19 hits in the second game and were led by Bladimir Toribio and Josef Schaetzle#, who both recorded three hits. Schaetzle (3-for-4) and Toribio (3-for-5) drove in two runs each while Toribio scored three runs and Schaetzle score two. Anthony Fernandez and Giovanni Jimenez each tripled. Fernandez drove in two runs and Jimenez had two hits and two runs scored. Euris Turbi led Old Westbury with three RBI in a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Edwin Pena and Tom Benedetto also stroked a pair of hits while Benedetto drove in two and scored two and Pena scored three runs. Jason Kondra drew two walks, scored two runs and delivered an RBI single in a 1-for-2 game at the dish. Malike Wylie reached on a leadoff single in the sixth for his first career hit.
Jeremy Schwartzand Elie Baratz recorded all four of Yeshiva's hits, platting two hits each.

James Huber made his first start of the season on the mound and struck out two in three innings of work. Huber allowed just one hit and improved to 1-0 on the season. Relivers Joshua Burgos, Frank DiMaria, Ranser Reyes, William Campbell and Giovanni Jimenez tossed the remaining four innings to complete the sweep for Old Westbury. DiMaria, Campbell and Jimenez had three strikeouts each.

Adam Volk took the loss for Yeshiva and moved to 0-2 on the season. Volk gave up eight earned runs on 11 hits and four walks in 4.1 innings on the hill.

The Panthers will return to the field on Saturday, March 27 for a Skyline Conference doubleheader with the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins. First pitch is slated for12 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, New York.
