YAPHANK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team allowed the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors to shine in all phases of the game to cruise to a 14-1 victory on Sunday at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York. The Panthers fall to 1-5 on the season and the Warriors improve to 2-0.

Josef Schaetzle had two hits to pace the Panthers' offense, which pounded five hits. Ali Ferreiras went 1-for-3 with a single and scored in the seventh to put Old Westbury on the scoreboard off a single by Giovanni Jimenez. Jimenez finished 1-for-4 at the plate and Melvin Simmons singled to go 1-for-5 and both Jimenez and Simmons have recorded a hit in five of six games.

Jorge Hiraldo got the starting nod on the hill for Old Westbury and lasted 1.2 innings and was pinned with the loss after allowing six runs on two hits and six walks. Reliever's Ryan Jarvis#, Alex Villanueva, James Huber and Kevin Briffa all gave up runs while Ranser Reyes tossed a scoreless seventh.

Eastern Connecticut starter Austin Musson struck out eight Old Westbury batters over five quality innings to record the mound victory. Michael Hepple surrendered Old Westbury's lone run on two hits and a walk in the seventh.

Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon as the Panthers and Kean University Cougars tangle for a non-conference battle at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium.
