Box Score 2 PURCHASE, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team sweep its doubleheader in the “Battle of the Panthers” with Purchase College on Saturday, taking game one 10-6 before sweeping with 16-8. The sweep improved Old Westbury 11-12 on the season and 8-2 in Skyline Conference action, while Purchase dropped to 9-14 and 4-7.
Combined, Old Westbury collected 31 hits, including six doubles, a triple and nine stolen bases, while Purchase had 23 hits and nine errors in the doubleheader sweep.
In game one,
Dan Fordyce earned his second win of the year by tossing eight innings despite giving up six runs on 12 hits. The senior southpaw allowed six runs on 12 hits and one walk while striking out seven. Able Guerrero fanned three batters in the ninth to preserve the win. Old Westbury struck out 10 and walked just one while CJ Bulo took the loss (1-4) and worked a complete game for Purchase, striking out two and walking one.
Offensively, the Panthers rapped out 13 hits in the contest, including three doubles and left just three runners on base.
Individually,
Melvin Simmons and #Giovanni Jimenez collected three hits apiece while Jimenez doubled twice. Simmons doubled and drove in one run and scored three times to go along with a stolen bag.
Albert Bevacqua (2-for-5, RBI, R) and
Euris Turbi (2-for-3, 1 R) both paired hit for Old Westbury in the win.

Ali Ferreiras and
Joe Manzella all scored. Manzella and Konda each knocked in a run.

Euris Turbi for the go ahead run. After Purchase scored one in the seventh Old Westbury countered with two runs in the eighth and ninth to take a 10-4 advantage. Dan Stroud delivered a triple that scored two for Purchase off starter
Dan Fordyce.
Abel Guerrero was called upon for relief work and stranded Stroud on third and fanned three straight.
In game two, Old Westbury led the entire game with three runs in the first and five in the second to take an 8-1 lead at the end of the two frames. Purchase added four runs off three hits and an error in the third inning off starter
James Huber and reliever
Kevin Briffa. Purchase would score a run in the last three innings but OW added three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break the contest open.
James Huber last 2.1 innings and was charged with five runs (four earned) off three hits and three walks. Reliever
Kevin Briffa picked up his first win of his collegiate career with three innings of work. The freshman allowed two runs off four hits. He struck out one and walked one.
Frank DiMaria retired both batters he faced in the sixth and
Ranser Reyes took over in the seventh to secure the victory.
Albert Baez (2-5) took the loss for Purchase, pitching five innings and was tapped for 13 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits and one walk. Brian Thompson worked the sixth and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk before Francis Delgado closed out the seventh.
Jason Kondra clubbed a double and a triple with three RBI and three runs scored after going 4-for-4 at the plate. #Melvin Simmons, who had three hits in game one of the doubleheader, added his seventh three-hit game of the season. He included three scores, two stolen bases and an RBI.

Dan Stroud led Purchase offensively with three runs and two RBI off two hits. George Kennedy and Jack Lappin each had two hits and batted in a run and Will Bernstein scored a pair of runs.
The Panthers will return to the diamond on Sunday, April 11 for a Skyline Conference doubleheader with the Mount Saint Mary Blue Knights. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, New York.
