OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team lost two games to the Mount Saint Mary Blue Knights 11-9 and 8-2, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex on Sunday. OW moved to 11-14 on the season and 8-4 against the Skyline Conference while Mount Saint Mary climbed to 5-16 and 5-5.
Abel Guerrero took the loss for OW in the first game when Marc Soevyn came in to get the win and Matthew Senzamici earned the save for Mount Saint Mary.
Marvin Rosario surrendered six runs on nine hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings of mound work for Old Westbury. Mount Saint Mary started Frank Snyder lasted 5.2 innings and was tapped for nine runs (five earned) off 12 hits and one walk.
Jason Kondra and
Edwin Pena led the way for the Panthers as they both collected three hits apiece.
Melvin Simmons,
Giovanni Jimenez and
Albert Bevacqua all had two hits in the game.
Joe Manzella drove in two and scored two while Pena,
Josef Schaetzle scored two runs.
Micahel Umphlett drove in four runs and scored two while Michael Matuk had three RBI and William Casey scored two runs for Mount Saint Mary. Matt Prescia, Max Tecce and Rich DeRosa banged out two hits each.
Mount Saint Mary started the scoring early, posting one in the first and four in the second to go ahead 4-0. Old Westbury responded with five in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to take a 9-5 advantage.
Purchase countered with one in the seventh that knocked OW starter
Marvin Rosario out of the game.
William Campbell retired three of four batters in the eighth to set up
Abel Guerrero in the ninth.
Guerrero recorded the first two outs of the inning and then ran into trouble and left the bases loaded for classmate
Frank DiMaria. DiMaria took over Guerrero's count and walked in the first batter he faced. Shortstop
Melvin Simmons then committed an error that scored two and knotted the game at 9-9. DiMaria served up a two run single to Michael Matuk to put Mount Saint Mary on top, 11-9.
Mount Saint Mary starter Dan McCrea pitched seven innings and allowed two runs off seven hits in the second game to get his second win of the season.
Ryan Jarvis fanned six batters but didn't have his best stuff on the hill for Old Westbury, serving up eight runs (six earned) off 11 hits.
Bladimir Toribio paced the offense with a 3-for-3 game at the plate with an RBI double.
Josef Schaetzle registered the other extra base hit for Old Westbury and finished 1-for-3.
Michael Matuk and Matt Prescia slapped three hits for Mount Saint Mary while adding three runs scored and three RBI, respectively. Max Tecce and John Conroy hit a pair of singles while Conroy and William Casey each drove in two runs.
The visiting Blue Knights once again jumped out to an early lead by posting two runs in the first and four more in the third to take a 6-0 lead and added single runs in the sixth and seventh for an 8-0 cushion. Old Westbury scored their two runs of the game in the seventh inning as

The Panthers will return to the diamond for a non-conference affair with the John Jay Bloodhounds on Wednesday, April 14 in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
