PANTHER SOFTBALL TAKES GAME TWO AFTER DROPPING GAME ONE TO BLUE KNIGHTS

NEWBURGH, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team split a doubleheader at Mount Saint Mary on Sunday afternoon at Kaplan Field, winning the series finale 2-0 after dropping game one, 7-1. After the split, OW moved to 10-12 overall and 4-4 in the Skyline Conference while Mount Saint Mary goes to 12-12 and 7-1 in conference play.

Deborah Ciccarelli took the loss for Old Westbury, working six innings with five strikeouts and gave up seven runs off 10 hits and one walk. Caitlin Maynes earned the victory after allowing one run on six hits and one walk in seven innings. Maynes also sat down five Panthers on strikes. 

Six different Panthers registered single-hits. Jackie Governale and Victoria DeMarco led the way for Mount Saint Mary with three hits and two runs scored each. 

Mount Saint Mary got on the board early in game one with one run in the first, four more in the second and one more in the third to take a 6-0 lead. The Blue Knights added their final run off OW starter Deborah Ciccarelli, who gave up five earned runs. Old Westbury finally broke into the scoring column in the seventh frame when pinch hitter Kristina Giordano delivered a single and scored two batters later off a double by Nicole Petrucci

Old Westbury jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame of game two as Alyssa Clancy tripled home Nicole Petrucci for the eventual game winner. Samantha Siegler then stepped to the plate and lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Clancy for the second and final run of the game. 

After retiring her first 12 batters she faced, starter Alyssa Clancy gave up a single to Jackie Governale in the fifth inning to break her bid for a second-consecutive no-hitter. Clancy allowed a leadoff double to Sarah Johnson in the seventh to finish with two hits allowed on the day. 

#Alyssa Clancy whiffed nine batters in the game on her way to notching her third straight shutout and also led the offense for Old Westbury with a pair of triples. Caitlin Maynes was pinned with the loss for Mount Saint Mary giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks.

The Panthers will return to the field on Wednesday, April 14 for a non-conference affair at Rutgers-Newark. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m. at Alumni Field in Newark, New Jersey.
