James Huber worked 4.0 innings to earn the win

Three Panthers collect three hits to pace OW’s offense; James Huber improves to 3-0

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team scored in the first six innings en route to a 12-5 victory over John Jay on Wednesday night at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The win improves OW to 12-14 on the season while the loss sends John Jay to 6-23. 

Old Westbury received first-inning RBI's by Albert Bevacqua and Josef Schaetzle to take control of the game early. After scratching across single runs in he second and third inning to make it 4-1, Old Westbury posted three more in the fourth to go up 7-1. Schaetzle and Giovanni Jimenez drove in a run in the fourth and Edwin Pena scored off an error to cap the scoring for the frame. After reaching with a single, Jason Kondra scored three batters later on a passed ball in the fifth inning. Old Westbury posted a four-spot in the sixth to take a 12-1 advantage. Melvin Simmons and Giovanni Jimenez each drove in a run in the frame while Ronald Petito doubled to drive in two.

James Huber (3-0) received the start and pitched four innings while giving up three hits and one run with one strikeout. William Campbell, Bobby Hugli, Ranser Reyes, Kevin Briffa and Abel Guerrero pitched an inning each in relief to preserve the victory.

John Jay starter Chris Camacho took the loss and fell to 3-8 on the season. Camacho worked 3.2 innings and was tapped for seven runs (six earned) off eight hits and five walks.

Jason Kondra, Albert Bevacaqua and Josef Schaetzle collected three hits apiece to lead Old Westbury. Kondra drew a pair of walks and scored four runs while Bevacqua scored three and drove in one and Schaetzle had two RBI. Anthony Fernandez score two runs and Melvin Simmons clubbed in a pair of runs and scored one.

Xavier Perez, Wilmer Chavez and Steven Kendrick all banged out two hits to lead John Jay offensively.

The Panthers will return to the field for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17 with Skyline Conference rival, St. Joseph's-L.I. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
