Marvin Rosario allowed just three hits and whiffed five in his first shutout of the season

Marvin Rosario scattered three hits over nine innings to improve to 4-1 in leading the SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team to a 5-0 game one victory against the Maritime Privateers in a Skyline Conference matchup before erupting for 10 hits in a 5-3 game two victory. The sweep improved Old Westbury to 14-16 overall and 10-6 against the Skyline Conference while the Privateers dipped to 9-16 and 5-9.
Melvin Simmons led the game off with a walk and stole second and two batters later scored off a grounder by
Giovanni Jimenez to put Old Westbury ahead in the first inning. Old Westbury added their second run in the fifth when a single by
Melvin Simmons drove in
Euris Turbi.
Marvin Rosario cruised through the first four innings until Greg Olivia singled to break up the no-hitter. Old Westbury added a run in the eighth to take a 3-0 lead.
Jason Kondra led off with a double and scored the next at-bat off an error by the catcher.
Joe Manzella clubbed a double to left field to score
Giovanni Jimenez in the ninth followed by a double by
Melvin Simmons down the right field line, scoring Manzella.
Rosario struck out five and allowed back-to-back hits in the fifth to end his bid for a no-hitter, then gave up a single in the eighth, but otherwise worked well through the Maritime lineup. The lefty improved to 4-1 on the year, lowering his earned run average to 3.13 from 4.13 in the process. Dan Anderson was pinned with the loss for Maritime, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in seven innings, dropping him to 1-5 on the year.

Jason Kondra and
Joe Manzella each had two hits apiece for Old Westbury. Simmons had two RBI in the while, while
Giovanni Jimenez and Manzella had one. Greg Olivia, Ryan Simpson and Patrick Hall each singled for Maritime and Jonathan Proscia struck out twice.
In the second game, Old Westbury held on for a 5-3 victory. #Edwin Pena singled with two out in the first inning to right field and scored
Jason Kondra and
Giovanni Jimenez for the early 2-0 lead. Old Westbury added a run in the second when
Joe Manzella doubled and later scored off a single by #Melvin Simmons.
Maritime went scoreless throughout the first 12 innings of the doubleheader and busted out three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. Back-to-back singled off OW starter
Ryan Jarvis set the table for Christopher Santoro, who belted a three- run job to right field. Old Westbury responded with a solo shot by
Giovanni Jimenez in the fifth, his third of the season and the eventual game winner. The Panthers tacked on a run in the seventh on a single by
Jason Kondra that sent
Joe Manzella home for the score.
Ryan Jarvis completed his third complete game in five starts and went seven innings to improve to 3-2 on the year. He scattered six hits and three runs while striking out four. Christopher Myers moved to 1-3 with the loss for Maritime after surrendering 10 hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks in seven innings.

Edwin Pena and
Joe Manzella led the way for Old Westbury with two hits each. Jimenez and Manzella both scored two runs and Pena drove in two. Christopher Santoro finished 1-for-2 and jacked his third homer of the season.
The Panthers will return to the diamond for a non-conference affair with the Staten Island Dolphins on Tuesday, April 20 in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
