OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team swept the John Jay Bloodhounds, 4-2 and 9-1, in non-conference action on Friday evening on “Senior Day” at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The pair of victories improved Old Westbury to 16-16 on the season while the Bloodhounds slipped to 11-17.

Nicole Mannino slapped a grounder to short and drove home Samantha Siegler to break a scoreless tie in the fourth inning of game one. John Jay answered in the sixth inning with a run to knot the game at one. Angela Lam singled to start the frame and scored two batters later off a pair of errors.

Old Westbury retook the lead by scoring three runs in the sixth inning. Deborah Ciccarelli singled through the left side to knock in Alyssa Clancy. Kristina Giordano singled to left center and advanced to third on an error that scored Nicole Mannino and Tanaya Vinson. John Jay added their second run in the seventh inning but wasn't enough to overtake the Panthers as Nina Chao tripled home Marina Gomez. Alyssa Clancy settled down and retired the final three batters to record the victory.

Alyssa Clancy worked her 12th complete game outing of the season to pick up her 10th win. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. Clancy added six strikeouts and extended her streak to 57.1 innings without issuing a walk. Angela Lam was pinned with the loss and fell to 4-10 on the season. Lam gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.

Deborah Ciccarelli paced the offense in game one with two hits in three at-bats and Jessica Spero doubled for Old Westbury's lone extra base hit. Nina Chao's triple and a double by Jasmine Miranda-Summers highlighted the offensive attack for John Jay.

John Jay jumped out to an early one run lead and Old Westbury responded with three in the bottom of the first. Sherrida Maxwell, Alyssa Clancy and Lauren Isaac each drove in one in the inning. Old Westbury added four more in the second and single runs in the fourth and sixth to earn the run rule victory.

Nicole Petrucci and Samantha Siegler led the way offensively for the Panthers wth two each while Petrucci scored twice and Siegler drove in two runs. Sherrida Maxwell went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored in her final regular season home game. Alyssa Clancy doubled and drove in one to go along with two runs scored.

Alyssa Clancy improved to 11-3 on the season, tossing six innings in the circle and surrendered one unearned run on five hits. In the second inning, she dealt her first walk in 58.1 innings. Kim Bifulco (4-4) took the loss for John Jay as she gave up nine runs (five earned) on nine hits and four walks in 5.1 innings. 

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 24th on the road for a Skyline Conference doubleheader with the Sage Gators. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. in Troy, New York.
