OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury's Giovanni Jimenez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning of Wednesday's first round of the 2010 Skyline Conference Baseball Tournament to eliminate Mount Saint Vincent with a 2-1 decision.  The fourth-seeded Panthers improve to 20-16 on the season while the fifth-seeded Dolphins slip to 15-21.

Both Old Westbury and Mount Saint Vincent went scoreless, hitting a stalemate at the plate until the top of the seventh when the Dolphins got to starter Dan Fordyce. John McManus drew a bases loaded walk to score Christian Lavery to open up the scoring gates to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. Old Westbury responded with a run in the eighth when Giovanni Jimenez lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Euris Turbi

In the top of the tenth inning, the Dolphins drew a walk to start the inning which caused Old Westbury to enter Marvin Rosario in the game to relieve Dan Fordyce. Rosario fanned back-to-back batters and then gave up a single and a walk to load the bases before getting T.J. Laible swinging on a third strike to escape out of the jam.

Old Westbury carried the momentum into the bottom half of the inning where they would tack on one run to claim victory. Joe Manzella walked, Jason Kondra reached on an error and Melvin Simmons walked to load the bases for Giovanni Jimenez. Jimenez connected on a single through the left side to score Manzella for the game winner.

The contest featured outstanding pitching performances by both starters with neither factoring in the decision.

Old Westbury's Dan Fordyce struck out 10 Dolphins, walked five and allowed just one run on six hits over nine innings, while Mount Saint Vincent's James Puma allowed just one run on five hits and four walks over eight innings. Marvin Rosario, who replaced Fordyce on the mound in the tenth, picked up his conference leading sixth win of the season, improving his record to 6-1. Rosario totaled one inning of work and struck out three and gave up a hit and a walk.

Mount Saint Vincent's Rich Dionisio worked 1/3 of an inning before Joe Blackford (2-1) logged an inning of work, surrendering the game-winning run in the tenth. Blackford dealt two walks and a hit and was pinned with his first loss of the season.

Giovanni Jimenez and Melvin Simmons each registered a pair of base knocks while Jimenez drove in both runs for Old Westbury. Both Simmons and Joe Manzella drew two walks. James Labartino and Mike Pope both collected two hits each for Mount Saint Vincent.  Mount Saint Vincent's John McManus, Mike Pope and Kevin Coogan struck out two times each while T.J. Laible whiffed three times.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, April 30 for the double-elimination round of the Skyline Conference Tournament against top-seeded Farmingdale State. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the Farmingdale State Baseball Complex in Farmingdale, New York.
