OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Plattsburgh State Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-4 in the first game before dropping game two, 3-1. The pair of losses drops the Panthers to 9-11 on the season and fell to 5-2 at home while Plattsburgh State is now 17-1.

Plattsburgh State held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh after scoring in the fourth and sixth inning. Old Westbury posted three runs in the seventh frame off starter Matt O'Leary. Albert Bevacqua doubled down the left field line to score Giovanni Jimenez from second base for the first run followed by a single to left field by Josef Schaetzle to knot the game at 2-2. Old Westbury took the lead off a single to right center by Bladimir Toribio that scored Josef Schaetzle for the go-ahead run.
The Panthers held a 3-2 advantage heading into the eighth when starter Dan Fordyce gave way to the Old Westbury bullpen after giving up a leadoff double and wild pitch to advance Donny Coolidge to third. Frank DiMaria surrendered one walk before Casey Brighton reached on an error by second baseman Albert Bevacqua to score Coolidge to tie the game at 3-3.

Old Westbury responded with an RBI single by Josef Schaetzle off Cardinal reliever Brian Burns to score Giovanni Jimenez from second to take a 4-3 lead. In the top of the ninth, Abel Guerrero walked Crockett Pack to lead off the inning. Jorge Hiraldo entered the game in relief of Guerrero and got Anthony Presto to ground out. Giovanni Jimenez then moved from center field to the mound and gave up a triple to Danny Roeser and scored Pack to tie the game at 4-4. Tory Bouyea slapped a single off Jimenez to left field to drive in Roeser for the go ahead and eventual game winning run.

The Panthers' offense rapped out eight hits in the game, led by Josef Schaetzle and Bladimir Toribio. Both Schaetzle and Toribio each had two hits while Schaetzle drove in two and Toribio had one RBI. Dan Fordyce scattered seven hits in 7.0 innings, giving up three runs and two walks and struck out five in a no-decision. Giovanni Jimenez was pinned with the loss and fell to 0-1 on the season.

The Cardinals were led offensively by Tory Bouyea, who went 2-for-5 and Pat Shaughnessy, who belted two doubles and drew a pair of walks in going 2-for-3. Plattsburgh State starter Matt O'Leary tossed 6.2 innings and gave up three runs on six hits and one walks for the no decision. Dan Tracy improved to 5-0 on the season with 1.2 innings of two hit relief.

In game two, the Old Westbury offense managed just four hits in support of starting pitcher Ryan Jarvis. Jarvis fell to 2-1 on the season after going the distance, surrendering three runs (one earned) on four hits and fanned three. Jarvis has totaled 15.0 innings in three starts, giving up nine hits and one earned run and one walk with 12 strikeouts. Dan Tracy (6-0) picked up his second victory of the day as he worked 7.0 innings on the hill, allowing just one run on four hits and one walk.

Plattsburgh State scored three runs in the opening frame, due in part to a pair of errors. Jarvis settled down from there, allowing just two hits the rest of the way. Old Westbury's offense was dormant until they scored in the sixth inning. Ali Ferrerias doubled to right field to lead off the sixth followed by a single by Joe Manzella that moved him along to third. Melvin Simmons delivered a sacrifice fly to score Ferrerias for the lone Panther run.

The Panthers will return to the field for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 8 in a non-conference affair with the Cortland State Red Dragons. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, New York.
