OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team fell victim to a five run first inning by visiting Oneonta State and was unable to rebound as the Red Dragons defeated the Panthers, 14-2, Thursday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The loss sent OW's record to 9-12 while Oneonta State jumped to 13-5 on the year.
Kevin Knack produced a single up the middle to drive in Carmine Caputo for the 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Oneonta State posted five runs in the first inning to knock starter 
Bobby Hugli out of the game. Oneonta State added three more in the third before Old Westbury scored their first tally in the bottom of the third. 
Melvin Simmons, who registered his fifth three-hit game of the season, singled and scored two batters later off a single by 
Giovanni Jimenez. 
Oneonta State countered with six runs in the fourth to take a 14-1 lead.

Abel Guerrero worked an inning each in relief to close out the game. They combined to hold the Red Dragons to three hits with four strikeouts in five innings. 
Old Westbury tacked on their second and final run in the ninth frame. 
Melvin Simmons connected for a single to center field and advanced to second on an error as 
Euris Turbi crossed the plate for the score. 
Melvin Simmons paced the offense for Old Westbury with three singles in five at-bats. 
Edwin Pena registered hits seventh multi-hit game of the season and hit 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. 
Bobby Hugli took the loss, his first of the season, after exiting after one inning of mound work. He gave up five runs (four earned) on three hits and one walk. 
Joshua Burgos worked two innings after Hugli and surrendered three runs (one earned) on five hits. 
Andrew Salomon was roughed up in the fourth inning as the Red Dragons banged out six of their 17 hits on the freshman. Salomon was charged with five earned runs on the day. 
Abel Guerrero fanned two batters to lead the staff in strikeouts for the day. 
Dan Randall was one of four Red Dragons to finish with multiple hits. Randall collected four hits and two runs scored to lead the way for Oneonta State while Michael Arcuri followed with three hits in four at-bats with four RBI and a run scored. 
Starter Jeffrey Carter improved to 2-1 on the season after throwing six innings on the hill. Carter whiffed four and allowed one run on six hits. William Rivas pitched a hitless seventh inning and Joshua Herzenberg logged two innings of mound work in the eighth and ninth. 
The Panthers will return to the field for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 with the Purchase College Panthers. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.in Purchase, New York.
