(www.oldwestpanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team notched their 10th win of the season Thursday evening when they defeated the Purchase Panthers, 62-56, in a Skyline Conference battle at the Clark Athletic Center. OW improved to 10-3 on the season and 6-2 in conference play. Purchase slipped to 3-8 overall and 3-4 against the Skyline Conference.

Old Westbury opening the contest on a 6-2 run and Purchase responded with a 6-1 drive to take an 8-7 lead with 15:19 on the clock. Both teams traded baskets until Kim Weathers flicked in a layup to put Old Westbury up for good in the first half at 13-12. OW outscored Purchase 14-8 to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.

OW stumbled at the open of the second half and Purchase fought hard over the final minutes, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 27-20 difference at halftime. In the second stanza, Purchase outscored Old Westbury 36-35.

Kim Weathers led Old Westbury with a game-high 18 points to go along with six boards, five assists and two steals. DeAndra Scott followed with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field to go with nine rebounds and four assists. Brittany Jones and Abigail Williams each pulled down double-digit boards grabbing 11 and 10, respectively. Jones finished with nine points and Williams added eight. Ruth Vargas chipped in with seven rebounds (5 offensive) and three blocked shots..

Rachel Perrone poured in 17 points to lead the way for Purchase. Alyssa Guido added 14 points and Jessica Perrone contributed 12 rebounds. Alyse LaPadula finished with eight points and five steals.

Old Westbury shot 31 percent for the contest, including a 32.4 clip in the second half. For the game OW connected on 22 of 71 field goals. From 3-point range, Old Westbury shot just 16.7 percent (4-24). Purchase shot 30.9 percent for the night. After struggling in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just 24.1 percent, Purchase rallied to hit 14-of-39 in the second half, shooting 35.9 percent. OW held the rebounding edge, 62-34, including 25-9 off the offensive glass leading to an 18-9 second chance point advantage.

MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Thursday (Jan. 20), taking on the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins in a Skyline Conference battle in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
