FARMINGDALE, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team (2-4, 1-1 Skyline) suffered their first Skyline Conference defeat as they fell to the Farmingdale State Rams (3-3, 2-0 Skyline) in overtime, 66-62, on Wednesday night in Farmingdale, New York.
Old Westbury got on the board first with a pair of layups from
Kim Weathers. Natasha Smalls dropped in a layup for Farmingdale State's first points. Lushanta Savadel gave the Rams a 16-15 advantage on a jump shot to put her team up for the remainder of the half. Farmingdale State used an 11-5 run over the final 8:05 to head into the halftime break up seven, 27-20.
Old Westbury played catch-up through the second half as Farmingdale State maintained the lead for the opening 18:43 of the second half.
DeAndra Scott banked in a layup with 1:16 remaining to knot the game at 52. Kayla Koch hit a pair of free throws to give Farmingdale State a two point lead with 50 seconds left in regulation.
Kim Weathers knocked down a pair of free throws that tied it up at 54 with 43 seconds left.
Antoinette Jolly missed a jumper with two seconds left on the clock as the Rams forced overtime.
In the overtime, Farmingdale State grabed the momentum and went on a 9-1 to take a 63-55 lead. Old Westbury's
Denise Zajonc * pulled Old Westbury within four, 66-62 with one second remaining as the Rams came away with victory.
Three Panthers finished the night in double-figures led by
Kim Weathers She tallied 16 points and seven steals.
DeAndra Scott recorded 13 points and nine rebounds and
Denise Zajonc * added 12 points and six rebounds. Old Westbury was 21-of-63 (.333) from the field and 18-of-24 from the stripe. Old Westbury scored 23 points off 30 Farmingdale State turnovers.
Dominique Cunningham recorded a game-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals to lead Farmingdale State. Nikita Green followed with 16 points, four assists and four steals while Natasha Smalls added 12 rebounds and nine points. Farmingdale State landed 24-of-66 (.364) from the field and outrebounded the Panthers 51-40.
HUNTER HAWKS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for non-conference action on Friday (Dec. 10) when they take on the Huter Hawks in Old Westbury, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7 p.m. inside the Clark Athletic Center.
