(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team defeated the visiting Hunter Hawks in non-conference action Friday evening at home from the Clark Athletic Center.  The win improves Old Westbury to 3-4 on the season while Hunter dropped to 3-5.

Old Westbury got on the board first with a layup from Antoinette Jolly.  Hunter responded with a 7-1 run over the next 1:55 to take a 7-3 advantage, their largest lead of the game.  Moments later, Denise Zajonc * connected on a three-pointer to tie the game.  Deslyn Applewhaite followed with a layup at the 14:47 mark to give Old Westbury the lead for good. Old Westbury used a 29-9 run over the final 14:13 of the first half to take a 41-19 lead into the half.  

Myajha Elston dropped in a layup with 11 minutes remaining in the game to give Old Westbury its largest lead of the game at 29, 58-29.  Old Westbury outscored Hunter 37-31 over the final 20 minutes. 

DeAndra Scott poured in a career-high 29 point on 13-of-17 shooting from the floor to lead Old Westbury to victory.  Scott added eight rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes of court time.  Deslyn Applewhaite and Clarrisa Gallagher followed with 17 and 10 points, respectively.  Abigail Williams chipped in with seven rebounds and two blocks.  Myajha Elson contributed seven rebounds and four steals.   

Megan McKenna paced Hunter with 12 points and Nicole Lenard added 11.   Marta Banach ripped down a game-high 10 boards while Myra Molina nabbed four steals.

Old Westbury outshot Hunter from the field 43.9 percent (30-70) to 21.2 percent (18-64).  Old Westbury connected on 14-of-22 from the free-throw line while Hunter knocked down 11-of-18.  OW also enjoyed a 48-33 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.

SUNYIT WILDCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the hardwood for non-conference action on Sunday (Dec. 11) when they take on the SUNYIT Wildcats in Old Westbury, New York.  Game time is set to tip at 2 p.m. inside the Clark Athletic Center.
