www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball won its third straight game on Monday evening topping the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles 66-52 on the road in a Skyline Conference battle from the Danzi Center. Old Westbury improves to 16-6 overall and 12-5 in conference play while St. Joseph's-L.I. falls to 9-14 and 6-10, respectively.
A back-and-forth beginning to the opening half saw seven lead changes until Old Westbury grabbed the lead for good off a triple by
Denise Zajonc * with 13:52 on the clock. Old Westbury went up by as many as six with 4:37 remaining in the first half. St. Joseph's-L.I. closed out the final 3:22 on a 6-0 run to knot the game at 29 all heading into the locker room at halftime.

Abigail Williams knocked down a jumper to score the first points of the second half while St. Joseph's-L.I.'s Chelsea Lynch hit a jumper to tie the game for the fourth and final time. Old Westbury grabbed a double-digit lead at 9:44 as the Panthers used a 20-9 run from 18:14 to 9:44 to go up 51-40. After Kathleen Lamb cut the deficit down to eight points at 8:03, Old Westbury countered with a 10-0 run from 7:40 to 4:20, resulting in a 62-44 lead, its largest of the game.
The Panthers used a balanced scoring attack to take down the Golden Eagles. #Brittany Jones# proved to be Old Westbury's much-needed offensive weapon, tying a career-high 15 point effort (season-high) on 6-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Abigail Williams tied a season-high with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor in addition to a pair of blocked shots and steals.
Kim Weathers followed with 11 points, seven assist and four rebounds while
Ruth Vargas chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals off the bench.
Denise Zajonc added nine points and
DeAndra Scott contributed eight rebounds and four assists.
Laura Cohen scored 14 points in defeat to lead the way for St. Joseph's-L.I. Nicole Redding totaled 12 points and Kathleen Lamb registered 10 to round out the double digit Golden Eagle scorers.
Old Westbury had its second best shooting performance of the season Monday evening, finishing at 46.4 percent (26-56) from the field compared to St. Joseph's-L.I., which hit 31.6 percent (18-57). OW enjoyed its best shooting of the season from beyond the arc, firing away at a rate 46.7 percent while the Golden Eagles hit 41.2 percent. St. Joseph's-L.I. won the battle of the boards, 41-35, including a 19-9 edge off the offensive glass, but managed to convert those 19 boards into just eight second chance points as OW tallied five blocked shots. The Panthers caused the Golden Eagles to commit 19 turnovers in which they converted into 13 points. Old Westbury swept the regular season series.
BROOKLYN BULLDOGS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Wednesday (Feb. 16), taking on the Brooklyn Bulldogs in a non-conference road battle in Brooklyn, New York. Game time is set to tip at 7:30 p.m. from the West Quad basketball court.
