(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team needed an overtime period to record a 70-67 Skyline Conference road victory against the Sage Gators. OW improves to 14-4 on the season and 10-3 against the Skyline Conference while Sage dips to 8-12 and 7-8, respectively.

Old Westbury started out the game flat, finding themselves in a 10 point hole with 14:19 left on the first half clock. OW fired back with a 7-0 spurt from 13:51 to 11:26 to trim the deficit to three points (12-9). Sage responded with a 13-4 run of their own to push the lead to 25-13 with 6:32 remaining in the half. Old Westbury countered with a 16-4 run to knot the game at 29 all heading into the half.

OW took its first lead of the game on a jumper by Brittany Jones to open the second half. The Panthers quickly extended the lead to 10 points, jumping ahead 48-38 that capped a 19-9 run on a layup by Jones at 11:16. With 5:49 left, Old Westbury's lead remained at 10 until Sage closed out the second half with a 14-4 run to send the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, OW's Ruth Vargas' free throw with 2:08 tied the game at 67 and put them ahead by one at 1:21. DeAndra Scott threw in a layup with 1:16 left to close out the scoring, giving the Panthers a 70-67 victory.

Kim Weathers score a game-high 23 points to go along with five steals in 45 minutes of action. DeAndra Scott followed with 17 points, 10 rebounds (8 offensive) and four steals. Ruth Vargas finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots while Deslyn Applewhaite added 10 points, seven boards and four steals.

Chelsea Martin led Sage with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Kara Hackett added a backwards triple-double, combining 12 points, 15 rebounds and 11 turnovers to go along with four blocked shots and two steals. Jessica Byerwalters contributed 134 points off the bench.

Sage outshot Old Westbury in the contest 47.2 percent (25-of-53) to 36.6 percent (30-for- 82). OW won the boards battle, 49-39, including 29-10 off the offensive glass that resulted in 23 second chance points for the Panthers.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Tuesday (Feb. 8), taking on the Farmingdale State Rams in a Skyline Conference battle on the road. Game time is set to tip at 6 p.m. in Farmingdale, New York.
