OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team exploded with a 13-hit attached on Friday evening at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex to lift the Panthers to a 8-2 victory over the visiting SUNYIT Wildcats. The win moves Old Westbury to 4-4 on the season while SUNYIT slips to 4-8.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom half of the third when
Melvin Simmons broke the ice on the scoreboard. After a single by
Joseph Guido along with an error that moved him into scoring position, Simmons was able to plate the game's initial run by singling through the left side.
Anthony Orsano followed with a two-run homer over the fence in left center to put OW ahead by three runs.
Old Westbury was able to break the game open in the bottom of the fourth when the Panthers scored five runs off four hits and capitalized on five Wildcat errors. Back-to-back singles by
Chris DeGennaro and
Benjamin Farias brought
Ryan Blanco to the plate, who reached on an error that scored DeGennaro from third. Farias and Blanco worked a double-steal to perfection and were rewarded with a throwing error by SUNYIT catcher that scored Farias from third.
Blake Barbeito and
Joseph Guido stroked RBI singles that set up a sacrifice fly by Simmons to score Guido from third.
SUNYIT scored once in the fifth on an RBI single by Anthony Surber and again in the eighth frame as Dan Orza scored on a wild pitch.

Joseph Guido (2-4, 2 R, RBI),
Melvin Simmons (2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) and
Anthony Orsano (2-4, 1 2-R HR) registered multiple hits to pace the Panther offense.
John LeClair (2-4, SB), Dan Orza (2-5, 2B, R) and Michael McCrone (2-3, 3B) led the Wildcats offensively with two hits each.
OW starting pitcher
Chris Sanabria (1-2) picked up his first win of the season with an impressive outing on the mound. Sanabria tossed 5.1 innings on the mound with seven strikeouts, allowing one earned run on six hits and a pair of free passes. Panther relievers
Steven Chapter and
Marvin Rosario each had scoreless outings, while
Jorge Hiraldo pitched the eighth.
Michael Rose took the loss for SUNYIT after working four innings with two strikeouts. Rose was tapped for four earned runs on nine hits before Almutasem Elhindi and John LeClair combined to work four innings of scoreless relief.
Old Westbury's defense went errorless for the third straight game while SUNYIT committed seven. OW stranded four Panthers on base compared to SUNYIT, which left 10 Wildcats on.
