(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team spotted the visiting Albertus Magnus Falcons six runs in the second inning and was unable to overcome the deficit as the Panthers fell 12-8 Saturday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The loss moves OW to 4-5 on the season while the Falcons improve to 4-5.

Albertus Magnus posted six runs on the board in the second inning off three hits, three walks and an error off OW starter Ryan Bresnahan. Old Westbury scored its first run when Blake Barbeito singled home Steven Henriquez to the deficit to 6-1. After Bresnahan worked a perfect third frame, David Stern came in for relief work in the fourth. Albetus Magnus scored runs in three consecutive innings to take a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The seventh inning stretch ignited the Old Westbury offense to the tune of six runs off three hits and an error. Josef Schaetzle trotted across home plate as Kevin Cohen was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded. Barbeito followed with an RBI single that scored Benjamin Farias. Back-to-back two run RBI singles by Joseph Guido and Anthony Orsano, respectively, brought the Panthers within three runs at the end of seven innings. Albertus Magnus added an unearned run off OW reliever Jose Pena in the eight. OW scored its final run in the eighth as Chris DeGennaro scored on a fielder's choice. Albertus Magnus tacked on two more runs in the ninth off Jorge Hiraldo to extend the lead to 12-8. In the bottom of the ninth, Orsano, Schaetzle and DeGenaro were dealt free passes with two out to load the bases from Farias, who popped out to short to end the comeback attempt.

Blake Barbeito led OW's offense with his second consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-4, driving home two Panthers to go along with one score. Joseph Guido (1-5, R, SB) and Anthony Orsano (1-4) each drove in two runs.

Robert Gambardella went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in to go along with one score to lead five other Falcons with multiple hits.

Ryan Bresnahan suffered the loss on the mound for Old Westbury, working just three innings, giving up five earned runs off four hits and three walks. Bresnahan registered two strikeouts, OW's only on the day. Five Panther relievers pitched the five innings of mound work, surrendering five earned runs on 13 hits and three walks.

Matthew Finkenzeller earned the victory for Albertus Magnus. He worked six and a third innings, and was tapped for five earned runs off five hits and a walk. Bobby Bengivengo worked the final two frames to earn the save.

MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a Skyline Conference opener on the road with the Mount Saint Mary Knights on Sunday (Mar. 20) in Newburgh, New York. First pitch is slated for Noon from Delano-Hitch Stadium.
