OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers softball team split its Skyline Conference opening doubleheader with the Mount Saint Mary Knights from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. The visiting Knights took game one by the count of 5-0 and OW answered back with a 6-3 victory in game two. With the split, OW moves to 3-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while MSM is now 8-3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference games.

Sarah Johnson singled home Brittany O'Brien in the first inning for what proved to be the eventual game-winner for Mount Saint Mary in game one. The Knights added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and tacked on two more in the sixth to secure a 5-0 victory in the opener.

Samantha Siegler and Lauren Isaac both singled for OW's lone hits of the game. Lacey Kehlenbeck (2-for-4), Sarah Johnson (2-fo-3) and Chelsea Hepburn (2-for-3) each compiled multiple hits in leading the Knights to victory. Hehlenbeck and Johnson platted home a pair of runs.

Alyssa Clancy did not allow any extra base hits in the loss for Old Westbury. Clancy surrendered five runs on eight hits and two walks in defeat. Caitlin Maynes earned the shutout victory for Mount Saint Mary with just two hits allowed and dealing out two free passes while striking out six.

In game two, Mount Saint Mary jumped ahead by two runs at the end of their three outs. OW responded with an RBI single by Alyssa Clancy that scored Nicole Petrucci in the bottom of the first. Petrucci scored in the third inning on a wild pitch to tie the game for Old Westbury. Old Westbury took a 3-2 lead at the end of the fourth inning when Jessica Spero scored off an error by Mount Saint Mary catcher Ashley Peel. OW exploded for three more runs on a two out rally in the sixth frame off one hit and three errors. Jennifer Jean singled and came around to score along with Mary Naula and Nicole Petrucci off an error by the catcher and first baseman. Mount Saint Mary's comeback attempt fell short in the seventh inning. Brittany O'Brien delivered an RBI double to score Danielle Orender with two outs before Alyssa Clancy retired Ashley Peel for the final out.

Nicole Petrucci collected three hits in a 3-for-4 game at the plate while scoring three runs for the Panthers. Brittany O'Brien stroked three hits in including a pair of doubled in a 3-for-3 game while Jackie Governale drove in two runs.

Alyssa Clancy notched the win for Old Westbury, going the distance for the seventh time this season. She fanned six batters and gave up one earned run on five hits with zero free passes dealt out. Amanda Barrese took the loss for MSM in the circle. Barrese was tapped for six runs (four earned) run on seven hits and a walk and struck out three.

SAGE GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at home on Sunday (Mar. 27) in Old Westbury, New York. First pitch is slated for Noon from the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
