Nicole Petrucci scored four runs on the day amd went 3-for-7 at the plate

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury Panthers softball team rolled past the Sage Gators 6-1 and 9-3 in a Skyline Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The sweep improved OW to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play while Sage dropped to 0-9 and 0-3, respectively.

Old Westbury wasted no time getting on the board in the opener as Alyssa Clancy tripled home Nicole Petrucci and Jennifer Jean for the first two runs of the game in the opening frame. Four more Panther runs crossed the plate in the second off a single up the middle by Jean that scored Denise Zajonc and Alex Heaney. Samantha Siegler followed with an RBI single to score Petrucci and Jean to close out the scoring for OW. Alyssa Clancy had a perfect game working until Tiffany Bezio doubled to break it up in the top of the fifth. Two batters later, Hillary Fass drove in Bezio on a grounder for Sage's lone run of the game.

Nicole Petrucci (2-4, 2 R), Nicole Mannino (2-3, 2B) and Denise Zajonc (2-3, R) led OW's nine hit offensive attack with multiple hits. Petrucci and Jennifer Jean both scored a pair of runs. Tiffany Bezio and Rachel Smith collected both of Sage's hits for the game.

Alyssa Clancy worked her sixth complete game of the season while fanning four batters. She allowed one run on two hits. Kelsey Newberg struck out five Panthers and took the loss for Sage, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and two walks.

In game two, Sage jumped out to an early two run advantage at the end of the first inning, Chantal Ceragioli doubled down the right field line to score Katie Karkoski and two batters later scored on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Welcome. It wasn't until the fourth inning that OW broke Jackie Petteys's no hitter when the Panthers scored five runs to knock her out of the game. Samantha Howley tied the game with a two run single that scored Mary Naula and Alyssa Clancy. Two batters later Alex Heaney crossed the plate as Jennifer Jean drew a bases loaded walk. Samantha Siegler followed with a two run single to score Nicole Pettruci and Howley on the play. Sage scored once in the sixth off a single by Ashley Eberle that drove in Tiffany Bezio. Old Westbury tacked on four more runs in the sixth to take a 9-3 victory. Petrucci singled in Heaney and two batters later Siegler slapped a two run single to right center to five OW an 8-3 advantage. Keshia Carter scored the final run on an error by Sage center fielder Ashley Eberle.

Old Westbury's Samantha Siegler drove in four runs in a 2-for-4 game at the plate and Samantha Howley added two hits in three at bats including, scoring and driving in two. Nicole Petrucci scored twice. Hillary Faas led the Gators in going 2-for-3 at the plate. Chantal Ceragioli doubled for Sage's lone extra base hit.

Alyssa Clancy struck out three Gators and improved to 5-5 on the season the game two victory in the circle. She allowed three runs on eight hits in her complete game outing. Jackie Petteys suffered the loss for Sage, after lasting just 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. Petteys was hit for five runs on two hits and six walks.

USMMA MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: The Panthers return to the field for non-conference battle on the road Wednesday (Mar. 30) afternoon with the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners in Kings Point, New York. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. from the Lower Roosevelt Field.
